What to watch vs. Eagles
The Globe's Chris Gasper previews Friday's Patriots-Eagles exhibition matchup by detailing three key areas to watch.
Gasper says to keep an eye on: The backup quarterbacks, the running game, and players like Rodney Harrison and James Sanders, who could potentially see more playing time as they work their way back from injuries.
Click the link below to watch Gasper's video analysis. Tomorrow, we'll have three more areas to watch from the Globe's Mike Reiss.

The Patriots need a roll out type of passer someone who can move around.
Richard I assume you mean as a backup. You should look up some footage of Kevin O'Connell. He's mobile and lead San Diego State in rushing several games last year. I think he's got the best shot at becoming the backup unless Cassel really comes around.
When you have no protection, you'd better be able to move. I think that's why O'Connell has been more successful than Cassel thus far. Brady can read the defense as fast as anyone and therefore doesn't need as much time or mobility, but Cassel falls somewhere in between. However, I expect he'll play much better than he has thus far on Friday due to the fact that he's gotten much needed 'live game' reps the past two games. GO PATS!!!

You guys are idiots. Matt G. has shown more potential then either one of the other 2 combined. The reason he didnt play last week has nothing to do with the depth chart.
Does ANYBODY here actually watch the Patriots? They're a Football Team... You can catch 'em on television. If and When You do You'll notice that O'Connel, even as a Rookie has the most potential of the three. Guiterez is a notch above O'Connel only in the sense of being immersed already in the NFL and the Pat's System. Matt Cassel, on the other hand, would get wrecked by the majority of High School Girl's Powder Puff Flag-Football Teams. He locks onto his target the entire play, his throws are errant, not crisp at all, and he has the worst case of Bledsoe-esque happy-feet sensing one speck of pressure, and that's when he subsequently caves in a very wide variety of ways...Cassel and Pressure? Matt Cassel getting sacked is one of his better plays. I wouldn't trust Cassel flipping my burger at a bad fast food chain... And Can Someone do some research, the guy's gotta be Belichick's nephew or something
Belichick should have been playing both other QBs last year instead of running up the score. There's no better way to evalute a QB than to see him in regular season games going against real defenses who are trying their hardest. You really can't tell that much from a pre-season game.
Wow....we are all priveledged to share the same blog section as Joe. Joe, I know we are all just "idiots" like you say, but Gutierez hasn't shown any more than the other backups. Also, you say that the reason he didnt play last week had nothing to do with the depth chart, yet you dont share with the rest of us "idiots" the real reason. Why? Because you are talking out of your backside, thats why. The Pats want to keep someone around who knows the offense the most (unfortunately that is Cassel) and someone who they can develop (O'Connell) guess who is left out in this? Wow, you really are smarter than the rest of us, arent you? By saying Gutierez has shown the most potential of the three backups thus far, is like applauding a kid for "only" eating 4 cupcakes at fat camp....BIG DEAL
