Andruzzi starts Foundation

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 28, 2008 09:00 AM

Former Patriots offensive lineman Joe Andruzzi, who has settled in Mansfield, Mass., with his wife Jen and their four children, is starting his own charitable foundation.

The Joe Andruzzi Foundation has been created in tribute to all cancer patients and everyone that has been touched by cancer. The goal of the foundation is to improve all levels of patient care and their needs.

Andruzzi's kickoff event is scheduled for today at the Outlaw BBQ on Rte. 1 in Foxborough, and is a "Motorcycle Poker Run and Family Fun Day." It starts at 2 p.m. and is $20 per rider.

Andruzzi and his wife Jen supported cancer-related causes during his time with the Patriots from 2000-2004. In 2007, Joe was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma.

"I'm in full remission, my numbers are back. I'm just dealing with some side effects from chemotherapy, nerve damage in my feet," Andruzzi said. "But I'm doing great, and putting this foundation together with my wife with the hope that we can do good for other people."
