Belichick on Brady

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 7, 2008 05:25 PM

Here are the comments from coach Bill Belichick's post-game press conference relating specifically to quarterback Tom Brady:

Part of opening statement
"I don't have any update on Tom. They're looking at him, doing some tests on him, so we'll see how that turns out. I don't have any information here, not that anyone is interested in that [media laughs]."

What did you see, if anything, on the play that Pollard hit Brady and knocked him out?
"I didn't see it. I saw [Randy] Moss catch it."

What was your reaction when you looked back and saw the quarterback?
"You never want to see anybody on the ground. We'll see what happens. I'm not sure what we're dealing with yet."

All we were told was a knee. Do you know anything more?
"No, I don't. I think it's his knee."

When you say they're looking at him, can you expound upon that? Is it your staff or a hospital staff?
"I just got off the field. Just went in there and talked to the team, got off the field, and came in here. I'm sure it's somebody with a medical background."

  1. What an arrogant ass! Since it's not a life-threatening injury, and it's already happened, I can say without guilt: "hopefully Brady will be out for a LONG time!"

  1. typical Belichick speak. Lots of words and absolutely no meaning. We won't know anything until middle of the week. I'm going to guess 5 weeks minimum, possibly IR, which means everything would fall on Cassel

  1. He is Done. I have been throwing up since the cheap hit.

  1. i'm sick of bill's keeping the injuries quiet...we all want to know what the real story is with tom...as fans we have a right to know

  1. the fact that bill was being playfully smug in the postgame conference leads me to think that brady will be ok...mike please get us some a time frame!!

  1. “No, I don’t. I think it’s his knee.”

thats a interesting statement and the only good tidbit we got out of that for someone who doesnt tip his hand one way or the other. We'll just have to wait and see.

  1. So Belichick confirmed that Brady has knees?

  1. Wasn't a cheap hit, guy just fell, and on the last question, Belichick should have said..."actually it was a catholic priest and the tooth fairy looking him over....They were giving him his last rights, and I believe a tooth was knocked out sometime during the game, Brady wants his money"

  1. He'll be fine. Tom Brady is a very tough guy, and I doubt belichick would be so upbeat. If Cassel plays as great as he played today, the pats will be fine til Brady is back. Defense looked good, too.

  1. After last season with many blow out games where Cassel ccould have gotten a lot of game experience so the coaching staff could know what he could do in a game situation, he was rarely used. When the Patriots clenched home field advantage all the way through the playoffs last year, maybe a wise coach would have started his back up quarterback to see not only for the short term but also for the long term his ability level in actual game conditions.
Now Coach Belichick has to use an inexperience quarterback who has been with this team for at least two years and has NO EXPERIENCE! ! !
Also, the offensive line has not been improved to open holes for the running game.
This could be a VERY LONG, FRUSTRATING SEASON.

  1. I agree with you, Peter Martin. For years I gave Bill a pass on his constantly being "cute" with his secrecy and putting Tom's shoulder on the injury report every week but it's wearing awfully thin. The Pats exist only because fans buy tickets and, frankly, they deserve more when the franchise goes down than the usual Belichick pandering.

What say, Bill? For once will you quit putting the fans in the cheap seats and be straight with us about Tom?

  1. The defense looked good? Are you kidding, Jack? The defense gave up 10 points to a team picked to finish last in the league, a team with 33 rookies, and, gave up a touchdown to the Chief's backup QB. I hope you find something else to do next Sunday when Favre shreds our secondary!

  1. It looks like the bandwagon jumpers will be jumping off now, thank goodness. I sawe the Jets play the Fins today and they didn't look like world beaters even with Favre going against the Fins pitiful defense.

  1. has anyone read this? "Sources: Brady out with ACL tear" there is an article on yahoo sports written by Michael Silver that Brady is out for the season.

  1. Why would he give any information out. I know everyone wants to know the situation with Brad but why give the next team an idea on whom to game plan for?
I have no problem with Belichick being " cute" with his answers about Brady's injury or for that matter any one else on the team's injuries. Granted there's not much for the Jets to go on about Cassel film wise but let them keep wondering until the day the injury has to be revealed!

  1. Hey folks, as Pats fans we have to learn to suck it up a little bit better. Good Grief, the Ravens won a Super Bowl with TRENT DILFER as a QB. Wah-Wah, what a bunch of soft , jump off the bandwagon Pink Hat fan attitude. Any one remember the lean years, 1-15, " In Rod we Rust??" The Stupor Bowl for the #1 draft choice with the 1-15 Colts? I'll take this team any day over that., Brady or no Brady.

  1. Everybody please remember..... franchise quarterback Drew Bledsoe goes down. An unheard of, skinny bench warmer named "Brady" is called in to "take the wheel".... the rest is history. HAVE FAITH PATRIOT FANS.
