Final: Dolphins 38, Patriots 13

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff September 21, 2008 03:51 PM

Ronnie Brown rushed for a team-record four touchdowns and threw for another as the Miami Dolphins crushed the New England Patriots, 38-18, at Gillette Stadium.

We'll have postgame reaction and more throughout the afternoon.

  1. Disgusting display from the entire team. Don't let me hear or read how great the Pats front seven are again. The O-Line is crap. Joey Porter was right! This loss was against one of the worst teams in the league. Good thing for the bye week. Right now the Pats look like a 9-7 or 8-8 team at best. Oh, how the mighty have fallen so quickly. It started last February. It is going to be a long season.

  1. Wow! One of the worst efforts on both sides of the ball since B.B. came to town!
The players on the Pats should donate there game checks to charity for this stinker.
I'll have to think about if I've ever since a bigger lack of effort and sense of urgency from this defense. Absolutely an embarrassing performance by this team.

  1. one thing that was clear today . Tom Brady has job security like no one else! Speedy recovery Tom. We will patiently await your return.

  1. Postgame reaction?

Amazed. The defense was exposed. Cassel has happy feet and refuses to throw the deep ball. This team that took the field today will be lucky to finish 8-8 this year.

  1. The fundamentals of the Patriots are strong...

  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Tom Brady lose his second start in 2001 in the same fashion? Regardless, this was a painful loss-especially since Joey Porter basically called this one...

  1. Well this one sure was painful.....agree with posterboy o.....with the comments from porter...glad our guys didnt respond to them during the week! I am more concerned with the defense than with cassel.....he is bound to have growing pains....but the defense..ugh! they looked terrible! i hope this is a wakeup call!

  1. PATHETIC! They should be ashamed of themselves. The lack of effort was horrific. Foxboro High could have beaten this bunch of frauds disguised as the New England Patriots today.

  1. Wait it out 'til next year. That's all we can do because this team quit playing football, period.

Cassel is NOT the answer for this year. They need a veteran, and fast, that can throw more than 5 yards. Yeah, we all know how Brady started. It's NOT the same. This kid can't read a defence. He had open guys and always went to his last choice, the closest one. They need a veteran.

Hobbs should stick to returning kicks and stay away from the defence. Boy, does that guy suck as a defencive back or what? He gave up on more plays today....ah, never mind....I'm disgusted.

    Get the one-year-bags out.

  1. Are you seriously trying to compare Matt to Brady?

  1. Could everyone please cut the "Brady had the same numbers in his second start . . . Brady lost to Miami in his third start . . . " crap. Brady had Bert Emmanuel and Charles Johnson at receiver. Cassel ain't no Brady - 2001 version or 2007 version. Start looking at those 2009 mock drafts. We'll be somewhere in the top 15.

  1. Look at all these NUTS! One game and the Pats are 8-8 or 9-7. Talk about over-reacting! ITS THE THIRD GAME OF THE YEAR!

  1. This shouldn't be much of a surprise.

The Defense is way overrated. The D-Line has been living off reputation for over 2 years now and that much is certain now after this game. They couldn't even get to Pennington.

Cassel? Temper your expectations. He simply is not Tom Brady, further showing how #12 is truly the MVP of the league. In a few weeks, Moss will check out because the coaching staff and Cassel just can't get him the ball.

  1. Buffalo 3-0.

  1. Even if Brady's on the field, they still lose this one. They got their butt's kicked on both lines.

  1. Anyone who thinks Cassell is to blame for this one is kidding themselves. The patriots defense looked old and the pass-rush was non-existant. Miami is big and young and pats are missing youth. You can't live off bruschi,Harrision, and vrabel forever!!! Let the young palyers like Crable and Guyton play more, please!!!Offensively, the O-line was a joke thanks to Nick Kaczur and Matt Light.

ohh, and fire Dan peas while you are at it! How many times does a team have to run the same play before your team adjusts, Dan the moron!!!!

  1. lets face it. we are spoiled. we have been living on top of the nfl world lately. football is not a 1 man game, but brady is so good that his loss brings us off cloud 9 for a little while. lets hope in the name of pride the rest of the team can muster of the mental toughness to start making plays themselves.
