Gutierrez promoted

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 13, 2008 07:34 PM

As expected, the Patriots have promoted quarterback Matt Gutierrez from the practice squad for Sunday's game against the Jets.

If the Patriots didn't make the move, they would have entered with just Matt Cassel and Kevin O'Connell at quarterback.

The club has not officially announced the move at this time.

  1. Who will they cut to make room on the 53-man roster as Faulk already replaced Brady on the roster earlier in the week?

  1. If Gutz is the "emergency qb" I don't think he counts on the 53-man roster -- but he can't enter the game until the 4th quarter.

  1. he counts on the 53 man roster but not on the 45 man gameday roster.. Not all 53 players can suit up for the games.

  1. Wow, is it possible he could actually see time this week?

I have thought about this for a while and can see this playing out. Pats use a 2qb system and suddenly everyone else has to have a first string A and first string B QB.

  1. My thought is that Gutierrez will be #2 this week and the other #3 If Casell struggles Gut could definatly get some game time.
