Maroney, Jordan not at practice

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 17, 2008 01:26 PM

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are holding their afternoon practice on the lower field behind Gillette Stadium (12:55 p.m.) and RBs Laurence Maroney and LaMont Jordan were among those not present for the media-access portion of the workout.

Maroney injured his shoulder in Sunday's win over the Jets. He missed two-plus quarters, before returning for one play in the fourth quarter.

The Patriots are working out in full pads and the complete list of players not spotted for the media-access portion of practice looked like this:

  • WR Kelley Washington
  • RB LaMont Jordan
  • RB Laurence Maroney
  • LB Eric Alexander

The Patriots will release their participation report from practice around 4 p.m.

QB Matt Gutierrez, LB Gary Guyton, C/G Russ Hochstein and practice squad CB Mike Richardson wore black jerseys, signifying that they are the team's practice players of the week. The practice players of the week are those deemed to have best prepared the team in the days leading up to a victory. Gutierrez must have done a solid Brett Favre impersonation.

The media-access portion of practice included stretching and two sets of position drills.

    1. Did Gutierrez impersonation of Favre included throwing an INT at the worst possible moment?

    1. oh oh! I think Lamont jordan's abscence explains why Kyle Eckle was signed. I was suspicious when reiss reported that it might be because of maroney's injury because they already had 4 backs without maroney.

    1. Maroney has got to get tougher than this. This might be a sign he wont play this weekend. You can never dress enough healthy running backs

He could not have been that badly hurt if he returned to the game when the Pats were in the process of running out the clock. ??

    1. Based on #1, how do you think the game would have playout out differently if Pennington was teh QB instead of Favre?

    1. I'm starting to loose my patience with Maroney again. The end of last year was so promising, I thought he would make a big leap this year. So far, not impressed.

    1. Why is ther no informationon Maroney's injury? I've been hearing about it since Sunday, but have not heard one person ask anyone (Belichick) about it. How about some reporting?

    1. Really good suggestion. I'm sure Belichick would be happy to give us a detailed description of Maroney's injury and a timetable for his return if the media would only ask him.

    1. Newsflash NM Pat's Fan. You get nothing about injuries from this team. Been that way for 8 yrs.

Maroney's leg could be hanging off and the pats would say he has lower leg injury and his return is questionable.

    1. YEAH Mike....why don't you ask Belichick about the status of an injured Patriots player! C'mon....do some reporting....or, maybe you'd like to save your one question for something that will get a reply!

Here, cut and paste this one in when you need an injury status:

"Injury report comes out Friday, we'll see what happens at that time"

    1. "Gutierrez must have done a solid Brett Favre impersonation."

      MIke, do I detect some . . . humor?
