FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his daily press conference (10:45 a.m.) and media members had access to the locker room (11:10-11:55 a.m.) today at Gillette Stadium. Here were a few nuggets of note:
1) Brandon Meriweather prepares for practice.Second-year safety Brandon Meriweather, who has been sidelined with a leg injury suffered Aug. 17 in a preseason game against Tampa Bay, said he expects to practice today, and expects to play Sunday against the Chiefs. Meriweather's return would add speed to the back end of the defense.
2) Deltha O'Neal meets the press. Veteran cornerback Deltha O'Neal, who signed a one-year deal with the team Monday, held court with reporters and said he's preparing as if he'll play Sunday against the Chiefs. He expressed his excitement on joining the club, and part of the reason is playing with Rodney Harrison. "I played with him in the Pro Bowl in '01 and I just love what he brings to the table," he said.
3) LaMont Jordan prepared to fill in for Kevin Faulk. With running back Kevin Faulk serving a one-game suspension, the Patriots will need to fill the void in the two-minute offense. Faulk is a major weapon in that package, specifically as a pass catcher, and Jordan has prepared to assume that role if called upon. "I've always been a back who feels like I can do everything -- third down, goal-line -- I think I'm an every-down back," he said.
4) Bill Belichick sets the agenda. In his press conference, Belichick explained that players had the day off Tuesday so the coaching staff took the time to break down the practice tape from Monday. That time was important, because earlier in the week, much attention was devoted to the various roster moves that were made. Now, he said, the primary focus is on the Chiefs. "I'm not saying there won't be any more roster moves during the rest of the week, but yesterday gave us a good chance to get zeroed in on exactly what we want to do with Kansas City here the next three days," he said.
Media members will have access to a portion of the team's practice at 12:55 p.m. The plan will be to post an update at that time.
im glad meriweather is ok.
ya its always important to have someone as fast as him in the secondary. I also think he could be one of the most improved players this year and have sanders job by the end of the year. Do you guys see Sanders getting an extension and playing along side meriweather next year with rodney as a consistent and well used back up/ for sub packages? thats what ive always envisioned and hope happens because i believe this is a contract year for sanders.
Lynch, is he or isn't he going to be a Pat?
