Patriots futbol

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff September 24, 2008 12:34 PM

Patriots players have a myriad of ways to pass the downtime inside the team's locker room. It's not unusual to see players listening to their iPods or playing dominoes at the game table. Some guys bust out their laptops, while others make calls from their cell phones.

On Wednesday, defensive backs Jonathan Wilhite and Deltha O'Neal showed off their futbol skills by kicking around a soccer ball during the media's access to the locker room.

Back in May, wide receiver Wes Welker told the Globe's Mike Reiss about how his background in soccer has contributed to his success in the NFL. Reiss detailed how Randy Moss became interested last year and the love of soccer seems to be permeating.

Check out the video below to see Wilhite and O'Neal in action.

  1. not trying to brag, but i had more skill when I was 10....and I never made it to the pros. They need to put that soccer ball down b4 they hurt themselves. Unlike what macho football men think, soccer is a dangerous sport. Those ho say otherwise have no clue about soccer to start with.

  1. Soccer is for pansies.

O'neal needs to toughen up and learn how to tackle. Leave the sissy sports in Europe.

  1. I enjoy watching videos like this because it allows the fans to capture a glimpse of what goes on in the locker room! Great stuff!

  1. It aint the NFL, but the injuries in 'soccer' include all of the leg, knee and ankle injuries you see in the NFL. Every tackle is a is into your lower leg, ankles and feet, and believe me, when a 14 stone defender takes away your legs from behind and puts his full weight onto your (unprotected) body, it freakin hurts. My left knee was destroyed by a foul tackle in this way.
Im not comparing, football is of course immeasurably more violent and physically demanding, but playing 11v 11soccer, especially at the top level, aint for sissies, thats for sure.
