Practice report

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are holding their afternoon practice on the lower field behind Gillette Stadium (11:55 a.m.) and colleague Christopher L. Gasper reports that the team's defensive line received a boost with the return of reserve Le Kevin Smith.

Smith, now in his third season and with 16 career regular-season games on his resume (no starts), has been sidelined for much of the preseason with a knee injury.

Media members were present for stretching, special teams work, and positional drills. In the positional drills, QB Tom Brady was seen working on his 3-step and 5-step drops.

Players not spotted during the media-access portion of the shorts-and-shells practice (light shoulder pads) included:

  • WR Sam Aiken (knee)
  • C/G Dan Connolly (knee)
  • RB Kevin Faulk (suspension)
  • TE Benjamin Watson (knee)

    1. Vive LeKevin ! Now, with his help, we can finally rest assured that we are on to victory !

I had already begun to worry his return would be delayed. Thank goodness...
