Practice report

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 12, 2008 12:45 PM

FOXBOROUGH -- The Patriots are holding their afternoon practice on the lower field behind Gillette Stadium and the team received a boost in the health department with the return of TE Benjamin Watson and WR Sam Aiken.

Both Watson and Aiken were present for the media-access portion of the workout, which included stretching and one special teams drill.

Watson and Aiken had been held out of practice all week, so they still might not be ready to play Sunday against the Jets. But their return is obviously a good sign for the weeks to come.

Players not spotted during the media-access portion of practice -- which was held in shorts and shells (light shoulder pads) -- included:

  • LB Eric Alexader
  • CB Jonathan Wilhite

S Ray Ventrone and practice squad RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis wore black jerseys as the practice players of the week (for the time leading up to the Chiefs game). The practice players of the week are those who are deemed to have best prepared the team in the days leading up to a victory.
