Randy Moss on 'dirty' play

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 7, 2008 04:51 PM

Various Patriots players were asked their thoughts on the hit that knocked Tom Brady out of today’s game. Receiver Randy Moss was the most outspoken about the play:

“I don’t really want to get into it, but me personally, I think it was dirty,” he said.

“Like I said, I didn’t really see anything; I was running down the field. When I came back in [and watched it], it looked dirty to me. I’ve never been a dirty player. I honestly don’t even know how to play dirty. I just play the game. Any time you see something like that, that looks foul, it looks dirty, it opens your eyes. So, me personally, it looked dirty.”

  1. Yes, it was a clearly a dirty play. You can see the safety, after he is down with Morris crawl up towards Brady's leg and just put his hands around Brady's leg, hugging it. This is horrible and I hope the injury is nothing serious.

  1. Speak the truth Randy!!! This needs to be said loud and clear, and that thug for KC needs to go down hard. We all know that Herm has had it in for Belichick after Bill has been beating up on his mentor Tony for the last decade. The NFL should investigate this matter, as it has long been speculated that Herm would try to do something like this to Brady in order to help out his friend Dungy. I think lifetime bans could be in order for these two if the speculation is proven true

  1. Moss is a frontrunner, a whiner, and the most classless player in the history of the NFL.

  1. Randy go to hell you idiot. You selfish piece of whatever. You seriously need an attitude adjustment, why not just go back to Marshall or to Oakland. DIRTY, another homer who obviously is sad that coming to NE won't provide you with a Superbowl. I LOVE IT.

  1. Randy if you want to see a dirty play go look at the tape of last years Buffalo game when Vince Wilfork cleary went after J P Losmans knee

Posted by Gary Hoyt September 7, 08 05:33 PM
  1. Dirty or not makes no difference. If Brady is out, this is a loss for the Pats whether it was dirty or not. And if Pollard gets fined or sits out does not matter either - Brady could still be out. Looked like a bad play from the replay but this is a contact sport and you have to take the bad with the good or vice versa

Did I mention sports fans from NY are slobs ?

  1. I say, if it was dirty

Give Pollard a parade. If Brady is injured for the rest of the season, like I'm hoping he will be, he's done a great bit of service for the rest of the NFL. I hate Tom Brady, and to me a season ending injury would make my day. Of course, a career ending injury would probably satisfy me too.

Posted by I hate Brady September 7, 08 05:47 PM
  1. Replay shows pats player pushing the guy into brady. Never dirty unless it happens to a pats player it seems. Get over it. If he didn't spend his off season playing GQ homo and doing interviews about his scarf collections, maybe he would have been up on his game a little more. No NFL player should ever have a scarf collection! What the hell is that all about!

Posted by Cursedmale September 7, 08 05:47 PM
  1. Gary Hoyt, thank you! But pats players never think their players are dirty. Wilfork was fined for his hit on Losman last year, but the patriots have those loser blinds on and never see anything dirty, "Oh, that hit wasn't dirty, Oh, cheating is ok if we do it, Oh, choking to the Giants in the only game that matters is ok," hahahah

Posted by Cursedmale September 7, 08 05:52 PM
  1. Every1 chill! Was Pollards' hit "dirty"? I don't know if he was trying to injure Brady or if he was just desperately trying to get to the QB to make a play? I don't know but I do know that, that's NOT a clean hit! Pollard deliberately put his hat onto the Bradys' knee and that my friends is as "Dirty" as it gets! The NFL has tried to discourage defensive players from making hits like this but, it obviously hasn't worked. The NFL will almost definitely fine Pollard for the hit. Don't worry thought Pats fans! Please don't ever, ever listen to a Yankmee fan dope about anything! Brady will be back!!

  1. yankees4ever, how many players are on your team right now that came to the yankees thinking that they would win the world series? The answer is so many of them that you ended up with a full team of 50 year olds that couldn't make it through a little league season without half the team quitting because of arthritis. Even if Brady is seriously hurt, at least all of us over here in New England can take solace in the fact that in the final year of the "house that Babe built" New York just kind of stuck their tales between their legs and gave their pay checks a big hug as they realized they just weren't worth the money value that was on it. Oh and even without Brady there's STILL a really good chance we win the division.

  1. If Brady played during preseason and toughed up under regular connect maybe this woun't happen. don't protect this QB , when he should be taking rep's from the starting O line

  1. Cursedmate, your post made my day. Lmao, scarf collection. Brilliant.

It should be noted Randy Moss is an idiot, so his opinion on anything should be taken with a grain of salt.

  1. Randy first said he didn't see the play, then commented on it. Its all right, cuz we should expect anyone on offense to back up their QB to the media or whatever, at all times. If Randy never saw it he still did his job. As for me, I'm moving past it and worrying more about Brady's knee. that's what I want to know more about.

  1. Oh,
So NOW its about winning just a division I see. Josh Brown give it a rest, every time eventually will have a year that they don't make the playoffs. You as a Sux fans can understand that. RIGHT ? Right ? I do hope your boys well, that he can maybe play in week 16. Did Belacheat tape that game too. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I love it, the invisible 18-1 Patriots. GOOD LUCK YOU MORONS.

    Posted by yankees4ever September 7, 08 06:12 PM
  1. The play was as dirty as they get. Moss is right on. As for the semi-brain dead New York Yankees fan, he is just a sore loser because he lives in a city with two teams in each league, yet it can't muster anywhere the championship/citizen ratio of Boston: Celts, Red Sox, Pats and Bruins. I've lived 20 years in Manhattan and can't stop rooting for the Boston teams. Good news is that the reports say Brady walked down the stairs. He will be back.

  1. If you want to see dirty, take a look at the player mugging and grabbing the facemask of the K.C. player who eventually landed on Tom's knee. How did that player wind up on the ground in the first place? Watch the replay carefully. It was just a player hustling to the whistle who was dragged to the ground and wound up hitting Brady's knee. Hopefully he's okay, but I didn't see anything deliberate.

PS-They weren't running up the score either. Damn these eyes!

  1. In slow motion, things can look very different than in real time. Tom is my favorite current QB, and if he's lost for a few games or a season, not only the Pat's suffer, but the league as a whole. I hate the Manning boys, however, they do raise the level of play and interest in the league, beating either of these teams without their starting QB's is a hollow win, as both, like Tom are the heart and soul of their respective teams. Those of you who wish Brady ill, like a career ending injury, look within yourselves and ask, what kind of NFL fan you really are. Are your teams so weak you can only win if the top QB of last season isn't able to play? If you still wish him a career ending injury, ask yourselves what kind of human being are you. To wish ill on someone who can no longer work in a field they have spent a lifetime preparing for, may the same never happen to you or someone you care about.

FOXBOROUGH - Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork is good at shedding blockers. Now he's trying to shed the notion that his hit last Sunday on Buffalo Bills quarterback J.P. Losman, a blow that resulted in a $12,500 fine yesterday from the NFL, was a dirty play.

  1. LOL gotta love the jealous NYers. They know last year was an abberation and the Yankee dynasty is dead, buried and the drunken brawl at the memorial service was the closest thing to a "fighting" chance they had. Of COURSE they have nothing but schaudenfraude to cling to.. they are NY fans.

As for other teams fans, I'm sure the same was said about Young, Montana and Unitas in their days. Jealousy is what it is. The Pats are a dynasty in an era designed to prevent dynasties. Who wouldn't be jealous of that? Cut them a little slack, if they had the best QB in the league, we'd be envious as well.

  1. Wow, can't believe the idiots who think it was somehow dirty. If anything, the dirty part of the play was Morris' "blocking" of Pollard on the play. Pollard's facemask was grabbed, and then he basically gave Morris a piggyback ride back to Brady. Pollard was trying to make a play, and unluckily for Brady, Pollard hit him when Brady's leg was straight.

  1. The people who hope brady is out for the season are not real sports fans. They listen your hoping a man is in pain and can't do his job. If some crap like that happens to you nobody would care. Your worthless scumbags who are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. If you died tomorrow you'd be lucky if 20 people cared to show up at your funeral. Nobody cares about you so go do us all a favor and GFY. And it was a dirty hit but I don't think he meant to do it. I don't think he was tying to injure Brady I think he was just trying to make a play. Hopefully Brady is back lighting it up against old man Brett.

Posted by Julian September 7, 08 06:41 PM
  1. Anyone who thinks that play was dirty is an enormous homer who knows nothing about football and is just making themselves look foolish. Sammy Morris was holding AND facemasking the guy on the ground, all the guy did was lunge at brady while being held and face-masked trying to make a play.

Get a life, Patriots fans- you cry and whine about everything.

Who is the guy talking about Herm being repsonsible and it being on purpose to get revenge on Belichick for his wins against Herms friend Dungy over the years? And talking about lifetime suspensions? Please tell me you were being sarcastic, because if not, you are one of the dumbest, most reactionary idiots I have ever seen post a comment on a message board.

  1. It's got to feel good to be the hated team. You know you've arrived when fans of other teams are reading your newspaper and posting jabs at your team. And I empathize with you people. Your wife is overweight and you're almost positive that she's hooking up with your mailman's retarded brother. Look, I can understand why you're trying to drag the rest of the world down with you. But it's Week 1 folks -- even if he's out until the playoffs, there are 54 other talented players that will get the Pats into the post-season. Pats cruise to a 12-4 record and then win the Super Bowl with Tom Brady as the MVP. And when it happens and you throw throw up in your mouth (again), remember - your life is miserable regardless.

No matter what becasuse we have been such a great team there's a huge target on our backs, if we weren't such a threat then folks wouldn't still be having remarks about the Pats, so all of NE don't play into this crap- bite your tongue and say nothing what goes around comes around, and believe me if people are still bad mouthing N.E and cheering that Tom Brady is seriously hurt they too will expereicne the Bad Kharma Train- don't take the bait fans-

that's the dirty play of the game

  1. yankees4ever:

This is a football forum, not a boring ball forum. Brag about your Giants pulling out a great win last year, in a game almost every intelligent FOOTBALL fan will say was one of if not the greatest Superbowl ever played. Even though my team lost, and I have to spend the next 4 months watching replay after replay of Eil pulling it out, I wouldn't have wanted to win the game with him sitting injured on the sideline while everyone would wonder "what if". That is what the rest of the league's team will have to question about any victory they have over the Pats this year if Tom doesn't play. Your not a sports fan, but a small man concerned more with your team doing what you yourself have never been, a winner in your own right.

Posted by BrocktonMike September 7, 08 06:52 PM
  1. Sadly, Brady's heart just isn't in the game anymore, kind of like that of Bledsoe a few years back. Missed all of the pre-season, questionable as to what he did during the off-season for staying in shape and now his real estate deals that he seems to be putting more effort into these days. Not so sure you're going to see the same TB that we've seen in the past.

Wilfork has a reputation before even coming to NE as being a dirty player and Moss has never had any class. I do feel for Brady because he is a classy guy and always has been. Too bad as he is one of the NFL greats. Just too bad that he plays for a scumbag in Belichick. Cassell is a disaster. Why have the Pats never tried for a better backup QB? We're screwed. I never believed in Super Bowl hangover/curse until today.

That is the kind've hit I would rather see put on that dirty, growth hormone induced former Charger Rodney Harrison. Nice catch Tyree :) By the way, tell Belichick to leave the red jacket at home this season, he won't be needing it.

  1. I wouldn't want anyone seriously hurt. I don't think the hit was intentionally meant to hurt Brady. I think the guy was just hustling to the quarterback, like any player would, and the unfortunate happened. My biggest concerns would be how serious the injury is to Brady and how close the game was being that it was at home and against the Chiefs. Even with Brady out, I wouldn't think the Chiefs were the kind of opponent that could keep things close against the Pats.

  1. Personally, I think Tom Brady never got over the SuperBowl loss, and hasn't been the same since. Hasn't played at all in preseason (not like him to not play through an injury), and he would have come back into the game in any other year.

Last year was fantastic, Super Bowl win or not, 18 straight games in one season is a record breaker. New England needs to get over the fact that we lost, the Pats still had a great year last year.

Not one New England fan conseded it was dirty when Wilfork reached out with his forarm to take out Losmans knee. As a matter of fact most NE fans thought it was pretty funny.
Now they know this kind of stuff isn't so funny when it happens to St. Tom.

You scumbag. Now that your beloved yankees are out of the playoffs again you're taking out your frustration on Moss. FYI Moss says it like it is whether you like it or not. He may not say what everybody wants to hear but at least he is honest-! Now go back in your cave and come out in April -2009 as the Yankees will again not be in the playoffS

  1. I believe it was a dirty play and if it was any other QB like any of the Mannings or Favre people would be all over this, but its because it was Brady its ok. Why the hatred for such a great guy and an unbelievable player. Jealousy, I guess. That can be the only answer. I hope and pray he is alright, not just because the Pats need him but I would hate to see a player like him out because of a dirty hit. Players know the risks but they shouldn't have to be out because of players like this idiot. I hope the NFL takes action but I won't hold my breath.

  1. All this hatred on Brady, it's crazy. He's never done anything but be a class act on the field, and shatter records. He's the ultimate competitor. It's like people hating on Derek Jeter. I can't stand the Yankees, or their fans, but Jeter is probably one of the best all around baseball players and class acts ever to wear a professional sports uniform and Brady is right there with him. Honestly Brady haters... Get over it. The NFL teams you support just don't have the caliber quarterback that the New England Patriots do.

  1. rusty - You might want to check that replay again, because apparently you watched some other QB get hit. Pollard had a 230-lb. RB on top of him, and was clearly rising off the ground trying to make a leg tackle - something that is quite common in the NFL.

It was just bad luck for Brady that he had stepped forward and his front leg was straight and planted when it was hit.

  1. Pats fans, are you really this blind? seriously?!? Take your boy off of Pollards back ( holding him btw ) and he would have never hit Brady's knee.

Also, how can you honestly look at yourself in the mirror after screaming to the high heavens of a dirty play? Harrison's low blow to Green's knee...Wilforks shot to Losmans knee...Wilforks attempted eye poking of Jacobs...and the list goes on.

  1. What is the matter with all of you NFL fans wishing injuries on others? These guys play pop warner, Jr. High, High School and College without pay, overcome incredible odds to make it on an NFL team, overcome just as great odds to remain a starter, their careers are extremely short in comparison to other fields, they put their bodies and health on the line every game and practice, and you wish them ill.

You should never call yourself a football fan. Win, lose or draw, the league is about the modern day gladiator heading out to the coliseum for your entertainment. What do you want, mediocrity? Hollow victories? Or should we demand the the losers have their heads cut off at the end of match. Would that satisfy your blood lust?

  1. It was a dirty play by Kansas City. NFL players are tired of the Patriots dominating the NFL. Other teams have no chance. The biggest evidence that it was a dirty play was that it happened in the 1st quarter. The Chiefs made the dirty play early so they would have a chance to win. But the Patriots were too good. I hope Brady heals quick and win more games to get back at the dirty players.

  1. I've watched this over and over again. This is NOT a dirty play. The tackle is fair. it was not made after Brady released the ball, it was just a tackle made along the ground instead of from behind. Patriots fans need to relax, and go back to all the dirty plays made by THEIR team last season.

  1. I like Randy Moss a lot. I'm glad he's here. But he didn't see the play. And he shouldn't have fumbled the ball - untouched. It didn't look dirty on the replays. Brady still had the ball and Pollard was trying to bring him down. It wasn't dirty.

  1. All I have to say is that, although I'm a hardcore NE sportsfan, I'm happy that so many people are pissed off and screaming about the Pats. You know why? Because it shows that we actually have a team good enough to have this many people pissed off about it. Take for instance, this year's TB Rays. I hate them right now, not because I have anything against them, but because they're doing so good, they're actually posting a better record than the Sox (best baseball team ever, suck it Yankees). So if this many people are pissed off at the Pats, it just means we're so good, no one else can stand it. Go Pats!

Oh, and Brady's coming back for Superbowl win #4. Count it!

If you are from NY, get a god damned life and go play on amateur websites like the NY Post. But to anyone to wish harm upon someone who brings nothing but class, integrity, and excellence to the NFL, you people seriously need extensive psychiatric evaluation. It was an illegal hit, Pollard should and will be fined at the very least. BUT at the same time I don't think he intentionally tried to injure Brady. Football is just such a fast-paced, physical game that things like this are bound to happen. Hopefully, Tom will be back before long and the injury proves to be nothing serious. But like I said to you sick people....get a life and NY sucks.

  1. Hey Yankee Fans,

This is a football forum. Take your baseball team platitudes where they belong, to some boring baseball site. If you want to compare your Yankees to a football team, ask if those players would be willing to show up on a football field and line up with any NFL team and go mano e mano. Yeah, that's right, the weather has to be nice, no rain, snow, only sunny days and clear nights. No contact, and Baseball players start off nine against one guy with a stick, and should he be fortunate enough to get a hit past nine guys, they make him leave the stick behind. What a bunch of pussies the "boys" of summer are.

  1. I don't know if the hit was "dirty" or not, but it was clearly illegal. Wasn't Vince Wilfork fined heavily for a similar hit last year? You can't hit a QB below the knee, that's the rule. I don't think he meant to hurt Brady, which is what I would consider the deciding factor to whether the hit was dirty or not. But it was clearly illegal and he should be fined appropriately.

Posted by Steve September 7, 08 08:30 PM
  1. I know Boston-area fans love to play the role of victim, but I don't see how anyone can look at that play with an ounce of objectivity and call it dirty. Brady was still delivering the ball when contact was initiated. And it's not like Pollard dove at the leg. He had been forcefully knocked to the ground by a (very good) block. It is not the defender's job or responsibility to let up because trying for a tackle could hurt the opposing player.

Posted by Jim Graham September 7, 08 08:33 PM
  1. People claiming that it's not a dirty hit should at least know what the rule is.

Defenders are not allowed to hit the knees or lower legs of QBs. Pollard was on the ground when he went for the tackle. There was no way he could have made a legal tackle on that play.

The fact that Wilfork was fined for his hit last year would seem to indicate that Pollard is due for a fine. We can debate intent until the cows come home, but the fact remains that Pollard hit Brady low and may have taken him out for the seasons.

  1. From NFL rules changes made in August 2006:

" If possible, rushing defenders must make a conscious effort to avoid low hits on the quarterback. Previously, defenders were not compelled to make a conscious effort to avoid low hits if momentum was a factor. Penalty: Roughing the passer, loss of 15 yards.
Reason for the change: Player safety. "

Posted by still a fan September 7, 08 09:12 PM
  1. Tom Brady will have an MRI tomorrow to ascertain the extent of the injury to his knee/ligaments. Obviously the Pats are not commenting on Brady's injury. The Pats also announced they are bringing in Chris Sims (Phil Sims son, Tampa Bay QB from University of Texas and now a free agent) to give him a physical, and evaluate him. If the Pats are doing this now, Brady's injury might be serious.

Posted by hitobito September 7, 08 09:22 PM
  1. Anyone gloating should be ashamed of themselves. You can't be a true NFL fan and wish a season or career ending injury on any player. A poor game, a poor season, bad coaching or execution, is something we all wish on our opponents. But to revel in the pain of another, of the loss of someone's livelihood, shows a lack of class, empathy, or human decency.

Think how tainted the Giant's win in last year's superbowl would have been if Brady didn't play. Or if Eli was injured and wasn't able to pull out that victory because he was injured. I have to relive that loss over and over this year, but don't wish Eli a season or career injury. Same with his over exposed brother whose face is in almost every other commercial during a game.

    Grow up hate mongers.

On a more positive note, all the best to TB and hopefully no morons send any malicious mail to Pollard. It was an unfortunate, but clean, hit.

  1. The first thing I thought when I saw the hit today was that it was awfully similar to the Wilfork/Losman hit last year. Which means Pollard should get fined for it.

For even when my team sucked, when these teams showed up, it was still a great show to watch for the pure talent out on the field.

Don't care or either Manning, River's is too cocky for someone with as little accomplishment has he has, don't care for Romo (only because he plays for Dallas) but when any of their teams show up, I want them to start so we compete against the best. That is what a NFL fan is.

I don't know if it was dirty. I didn't see it close enough at all because my eyes were glued to Brady down at the 50. Wasn't watching the replay on the screen. He walked off the field and the Pats still survived. Granted, on a scale of 1-10 the chiefs are a 1.5 but I gotta tell ya Sammy Morris was flippin AWESOME! He looked much better than Maroney. We have plenty of weapons and Cassell has been in the system for years. If he gets into a rhythm I think he can get it done but it's also going to take some delicate play calling.

There is no telling what the status is but an F'ed up ACL is 6 games AT LEAST! Buckle up Pats. This could be a long season. But I got to stick by them.

And as long as tha game allows and some coaches encourage hitting defenseless players below the knee, you'll have these "dirty-not-dirty" debates.
Make the hitting from mid-torso to thigh, and severely punish hits outside those areas - there'll still be enough appeal for neanderthals, and a lot more folks, from kids to the oldest pros, will have full use of this amazing instrument when they walk away.

Of course they do, the best ones at least. Do they want to hurt a guy? Rarely. The fact people like Randy were saying it was dirty before even seeing it tells you one thing: Randy and the majority of Boston fans are idiots. Sorry, had to be said.

  1. KC fan ... not trolling, but I did expect to see the usual cries of "dirty play". Pollard had been dragged down, had a blocker with an arm reaching over is head and draped down his facemask, and was simply struggling to make a play on a quarterback who was about to throw downfield. It would have been pretty difficult for him to make a hit above the knee when he was practically prone.

There was nothing dirty about it. And insinuating that Edwards coached this is to somehow believe that they could gameplan for that perfect occurrence of "hey, if you are flat on your stomach with a blocker draped over you, and Brady is stepping straight at you to throw, try to rupture his ACL with a well-disguised lunge".

I do wish Tom Brady well, but Moss is being a wanker on this.

  1. Football is game of sudden impact. The play on TB is what it is. Do I think Pollard is a dirty player? No. Do I think it was intentional? No. IS it against the rules and should he be fined? Yes. Runles are rules and they state that hitting the quarterback low is illegal. It wasn't intentional but sometimes it happens. You must pay for your actions. When Pollard was trying to get to TB was he celebrating while getting off the ground after the hit or was he frustrated for not getting the sack. Watch the replay. Depends on how you look at it.
Pat's fans, remember that in 2001 there was an injury to our starter and some unknown 6th round pick came in and lead our team to a superbowl victory. Cassell is a 7th rounder. That would be sweet.

  1. teddy.......if you watch the play on tv you can see the KC player actually lunge for Bradys leg. I dont call that a clean play. They make rules for a reason and the rule to not hit a qb below his legs needs to be enforced.

  1. That wasn't dirty, it was football. For a classless, POS like Moss to claim "I don't even know how to play dirty" is preposterous. Does he think we were hibernating during the past 10 years.
Stop being a damn girl, take off your panties, play ball and shut your mouth.

And all you pats fans, suck it up. You're lucky that Brady has lasted this long. Quit whining. You sound so ridiculous already with that boston accent, its sooo much worse when you do your high-pitched whine.

  1. All you spoiled New England fans need to get a serious grip. Everything can't go your way every day in every sport. Just because your "Golden Boy" got hurt doesn't mean it was dirty. The guy was blocked to the ground, Brady stepped up in the pocket right to him, what was the guy supposed to do ? Avoid him or try to tackle him ? I never wish for injury on anybody(except maybe Kobe Bryant), but Brady and the Patriots have lived such a charmed life for so long, Karma had to catch up with them sooner or later. I admit they are a good football team and really run their organization right(business wise), but they have been the absolute luckiest team ever for the last eight years, and maybe luck is finally going the other way, starting from the Super Bowl. Hopefully this is where the ball keeps bouncing away from them instead of straight into their hands every time. Jeez, they stiill lucked out and won today, maybe it is futile.

  1. Moss is a little crybaby . Harrison & Wilfork are the dirtiest players in the league and have the fines to prove it. Pollard's hit was clean. Maybe Marsha Brady is too fragile. Either way Cheatriots what goes around comes around

    Posted by baymen07 September 8, 08 08:38 AM
  1. Not as dirty as when you hit that cop with your car in MN. Let's see what a good citizen Moss will be this year with no one to throw him the ball.

    18-1.........BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWW

    Cheaters never prosper!

  1. I heard it reported that this was a planned conspiracy that Herm was involved in. Apparently Bill wants to get rid of Tom Terrific like he did Bledsoe. He and Herm planned this dirty hit. Cassel will prove himself and when Tom comes back, he'll sit the bench and be traded prior to next season.

  1. Obviously I don't play professional sports, but I have played sports throughout my life and in college. Reading some of these entries makes me sick to see that some people wish harm to others. I am staring to think that these people who are “jumping for joy” and “celebrating” that TB is hurt and possibly done for the season clearly never played sports in the their lives because if they had, they would have some sort of respect for themselves and others, not to mention some understanding of what an athlete goes through when something like this happens. I have had a season ending injury back in college (torn ACL) and let me tell you, it’s a bitch to rehab. Its tough mentally and physically. I would never wish injury (or harm) on my worst enemy. Clearly, these “haters” would have nothing to say if their teams QB went down. These people need to grow up and stop living their “glory days” thought professional sports because at the end of every day (whether you love or hate the Pats) we are all humans.

  1. Dirty hit? Pollard had a defenders hand inside his facemask, just because he has the same defender on his back means he has to quit? Come on, you fools are in a fantasy world if it's an illeagel hit!

Posted by BLITZHAPPY September 8, 08 10:35 AM
  1. I love it! Pats fans are so upset about Brady that they are trying to rationalize their pain by talking smack about the yankees... now that's real mature. We are talking about football aren't we?!?!

It was not a dirty play. Anyone with an OBJECTIVE view of the replays clearly sees that the defender came in contact with Brady while the ball was still in his hand AND that the defenders forward motion was partially facilitated by the blocking (or lack there of) from the O-line.

Let's face it, Brady is great but one man does not win super bowls... IE NEW YORK GIANTS 17 - PATS 14.

Sounds to me like the loss to big blue still stings a bit. It's been an offseason of excuses and this is simply a trickle down effect.

you guys dont seem to recall when palmer went out against the steelers years ago in the playoffs.

was that a dirty play? no it was just a play, get over it.

so what you lost your pretty boy QB and now your not going to wine 6 games.

  1. Talk about dirty! Pollard is clearly being illegally blocked by Morris in at least 3 different ways. I saw a facemask, holding and blocking in the back all in the span of time Pollard was trying to get to Brady. With Morris lying down on his back and putting his hands in his face, how was Pollard supposed to see Brady's knee to aim at it. I say it is karma. The Patriots don't have the cleanest record in football. When it comes to illegal activities they are the best. Have we forgtten the Pats vs. Jets game last season.

  1. So far it's been Randy (I lay down on my team in Oakland) Moss and the fareweather Pats fans saying it was a dirty hit. I have listened to more than a dozen sports media types and retired and current players and they all agree it was simply a bad deal. Nothing dirty, nothing malicious, just football. The Chiefs lost a QB also. What happened to the "cradle rule"? I thought you were supposed to bring the QB down easy, (cradling the QB). Croyle was driven into the ground and I haven't heard anyone say anything about that. Not one single person with any credibilility has even suggested that it might have been a dirty hit on Brady. This just goes to show how much a fareweather fan knows about this great game of football. Don't worry Pats fans, your team will be back to it's losing ways and you can all go back to spending your Sundays playing golf and shopping. I hate to see any player get injured and Tom Brady will be in our prayers. Hopefully he will be back soon. As for the so called life long fans of the Patriots, your argument is weak like your loyalty to your team.

  1. You Patriots Fans make me sick OMG TOMMY got hurt you sound like a bunch of kids that had their dog put down. THIS IS FOOTBALL things happen thats why they call it a contact sport. Tom Brady's injury was inevitable every star player whether he's a quarterback or a lineman gets hurt at least once. IT WASN'T A DIRTY PLAY it was just an accident you can't get mad because Pollard did his job and tried to make a tackle i could understand if the ball was already thrown but it wasn't. Your all just blowing this situation way out of proportion.

  1. Okay i play football. That was not dirty by any means. The sport is violent. Get over it. Things happen to the best of us. His job was to get to the quarterback, Period, end of story. Tom took that chance when he signed that contract.

  1. This whole cheater thing is ridiculous. If I remember correctly, the Patriots won 17 straight games after being "caught". I guess they "cheat" when everyone is watching. See if Mangini gets another coaching job after the Jets. Everyone was doing the same thing, Mangini just didn't like Belicheck. So, everyone from New York, enjoy whatever you can, you are not going anywhere in baseball, football, hockey or basketball.

  1. Chiefs and Purdue fan here, living in Indy the last 18 years. Yes, I do root for the Colts versus the Pats...it's good for my business to see he Colts win. I will say however, that Indy fans do NOT hate Brady other than having a tremendous amount of respect for the guy. The same cannot be said for the Weasel Belichek, but that's more for his crumudgeon grumpiness in interviews that makes him come off smug.

Anyway, Bernard Pollard at Purdue had the reputation of being one of the highest effort and intensity guys to ever play for Tiller. A few times, he did have some attitude problems, but mainly because he wouldn't put up with less than 100% effort from teammates and wouldn't leave it to the coaches to take care of it. Got tossed from a practice or two because he couldn't keep his mouth shut. HOWEVER, it was never because he didn't want to win. Additionally, he was never labled as a 'dirty' player, and I watched every single one of his games at Purdue and his 2 years with the Chiefs.

All reports I've heard say that he's grown up A TON in the NFL and matured into a great teammate who plays the game the way it is supposed to be played, which is what he was doing on that play.

If you watch it again, the only fault would lie with the Pats' RB for not doing a better job laying on top of Pollard to ensure he couldn't move. Pollard tried to get up to get to Brady and, just as he was trying to lunge for his mid thighs, the RB came on top of him again, lowering his angle, but his forward momentum took him into Brady's knee.

It was most definitely NOT dirty, in spite of what RMoss says, who, btw, has never hit anyone in his life, a la Deion Sanders. The only thing the guy will ever do is tie a guy up and get in his way. For him, with absolutely ZERO experience hitting another football player, to make that call is ridiculous.

IS BIT SLOWER, HE IS A POT-SMOKING, TRAFFIC-COP BEATING, GIFTED ATHLETE WHO JUST LOST HIS RECORD-SETTING QB FOR THE YEAR... HE IS MISSING THE GUY WHO SET RECORDS WITH HIM LAST YEAR AND HE IS MAD, SO OF COURSE HE IS GOING TO THINK THE PLAY WAS DIRTY, HE WANTED A SUPERBOWL THIS YEAR- U CANT BLAME HIM FOR THAT- HIS WINDOW IS GETTING SMALLER- BUT THEY WILL HAVE THEIR CHANCE IN 18 MONTHS WHEN BRADY IS BACK FOR VENGEANCE, AND HIS O-LINE STOPS DOING OXYCONTIN AND START MAKING BETTER BLOCKS UP FRONT (WHY THEY LOST SUPERBOWL, A PERFECT SEASON AND BRADY'S acl) SO U CANT BLAME RANDY FOR SAYING THAT- HE JUST WANTS A RING- WANTS TO BE LIKE RAY LEWIS THE BEST ATHLETE OF THEM ALL- AND TAKIING THE RAVENS ALL THE WAY THIS YEAR, THE AFC IS WIDE OPEN!!!!!

To go along with that anyone who feels that this was some kind of planned out hit from herm or anyone in the NFL on him should just give up watching sports, you are way too paranoid and should be worrying about someone conspiring about them. Your all a bunch of bandwagon jumpers anyway, there was no Patriots fanbase before you even got a winning record. He went for the tackle when a pats player pushed him into the ground from behind and his helmet made contact with brady's knee. IT IS TOO BAD THAT A SEVERE INJURY RESULTED FROM IT. HEY! ITS FOOTBALL INJURIES HAPPEN. IF POLLARD WOULD HAVE BEEN UNABATED TO THE QUARTERBACK AND HIT IT LIKE THAT HE SHOULD BE OUT OF THE GAME FOREVER!! THIS HOWEVER, IS NOT THE CASE. BE honest AND QUIT WHINING.

Yea,What I don't know is where the flag was.....I mean,it was very clear that Patriots RB got the chief in a headlock and slung him to the ground and was still trying his best to hold him when he finally got to Brady low, which was clean as could be,since he was being held down after being drug down...but penalty would have been declined by Chiefs anyway, since Moss saw he was about to get hit,so he laid down to avoid contact, and couldn't even hold ball...Chiefs ball...1st Down.

Now, Moss got greedy in the off-season so they had to let Stallworth go because they couldn't afford him after paying Moss for his new contract. That screwed them from the beginning. Now lets see Wes Welker step up LMAO, he sucks. He only got open because people were covering the only 2 receivers that mattered. Even with Brady, they did not have a chance win the AFC. The Chargers would have taken it. Needless to say, the hit was NOT dirty. Either way, the Cowboys are your next SuperBowl CHAMPIONS! HOW 'BOUT 'DEM COWBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. First off, I can't believe there's this many fans of the Pat's or Brady (for that matter) out there. Out here in the West, I don't even know of one team or person that is disliked more than the Patriots. The Patty's are even more disliked than George Dubya......Sorry, that was pretty mean, but unfortunately true. ( I wanted to use the word Hate than disliked. But from the looks of it, you guy's are pretty sensitive right now.)
Anyways, OK I'm done bashing. But the truth is, there is NO WAY IN HELL that the hit on Brady was dirty. In regards to the comment that J.A. on Sept.7 @8:05 posted and I quote, " Morris crawled up towards Brady's leg and just put his hands around Brady's leg, hugging it. This is horrible." Now J.A., are you serious?? Did you read what you typed after you typed it? Because if you did, you would've realized that that's Pollards job....To Tackle the quarterback.? Oh wait, he didn't even really tackle him. Just like what J.A. wrote, Pollard hugged his legs. I think he gave him a little kiss too. Hell, if you guys saw a dirty play, then I saw them two making out and getting real dirty! ( I'm not bashing now, just being funny.)
I know your team will probably NOT be in the Super Bowl this year because Brady is pretty good and w/out him you guys probably won't make it this year . ( See, I can give a complement. ) But seriously, this is the REAL reason why you Patriot fans are truly upset. You now know that your season is probably over. Moss doesn't have Brady to throw the ball to him and if Moss wouldn't have said anything, then you crazy Patty Wacko Fanz wouldn't even be mad. And that's the REAL TRUTH!!!

Oh wait, you Pats might be right !! WHO'S BETTER THAN A TEAM THAT CHEATS, TO KNOW A DIRTY PLAY WHEN THEY SEE ONE? Right?.Ha Ha!!

"Speak the truth Randy!!! 1. Moss, lets talk about dirty or substandard play...we all saw the game when you played for the Raiders and wanted to leave the team...back of the endzone you had a chance to catch the ball to tie or win the game...but selfish and stuck on yourself non-team player, you stopped your route and dropped your arms allowing a Chiefs player to intercept and cost the Raiders the game...just your way of saying trade me or i will screw the team every chance i get...HOW DOES IT FEEL TO FUMBLE THE BALL WHEN YOU HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN TOUCHED BY A DEFENDER, OR WAS THAT A DIRTY PLAY TOO (WAS THE BALL ALTERED BEYOND YOUR ABILITY TO HANDLE) (GET OVER YOURSELF T.O. 2 OR IS IT OCHO SINCO 2)

  1. May I say that many of you non-literate MF'ers cannot spell to save your lives anyways, that includes you yankees4ever. Instead of busting someone on their spelling of "power words" maybe you should cut and paste your rant into a Word document and use spell check, you tool. VANNA, not VANA, but I'm sure you knew that didn't you yankees4ever..?!? And everyone else sitting here bitching about this being a dirty play, look... I have to agree with others on here in saying football is a contact sport. Plays are made, and consequently, people get hurt from time to time. I think that's par for the course, but what do I know, I'm not a Pats or Giants fan. And whilst Bob Belichick is slime and probably wondering where his marriage went and why his parenting skills suck because of his kid smoking reefer, he still has coached the Patriots to the Super Bowl. Maybe I'm smoking too, but I don't think that the Patriots cheated as much as people speculate they did. That does take some skill, even if Tom Brady is a chav. Sports and politics should be separate, stop making such a big deal about it. Nobody cares about the Yankees anyways, except people who can't move on. Everyone calm the hell down.

  1. Pollard was actually moving in an upward motion until Morris pushed him down. Pollard did not know that Brady was going to step forward, and he definitely didn't know that Morris was going to push (block) him in the back. Where is the penalty for that block in the back? The defenders job is to make tackles, and the offensive players job is to avoid defenders (tackles). It is as simple as that! It is FOOTBALL and it is a VIOLENT sport that REQUIRES people to Physically Collide with one another. Who cares what the Pats (team, team mates, and fans) think. Moss just got mad because it was a lose lose play for him. He lost his QB for the year, and he lost the BALL, and now he knows his season is over just like BRADY's.

  1. Here's a thought- lets give all the NFL quarterbacks some flag belts and flags and prohibit any type of contact between a defensive player and the quarterback that would solve all the wining! It would be a mixture of NFL and powderpuff football. Perhaps we should look at having the linebackers having flags as well, then we wouldn't have to worry about crack-backs and cut blocks? Come on- look at the play again, he was clearly pushed from the back he was trying to make a tackle it was an accident!

  1. The hit was not dirty. It was a leg tackle, I have used it when I played football. If I was in his shoes, I would have done the same, tried to get a sack.

  1. First things first, I'm not a Brady fan. You do have to give him props for being a great QB. I wonder how good he would be W/O his OL, but that came through in the last Superbowl when he choked with defenders in his face. As far as the hit goes... " If possible, rushing defenders must make a conscious effort to avoid low hits on the quarterback. "

It's hard to stop your momentum when your hit from behind and pushed down to the ground. For everyone that thinks it was an intentional hit...I hope the pats win 12+ games and have a stellar year just to show everyone that Brady wasn't the only reason the team could win. It's called FOOTBALL not synchronized swimming.

  1. Anyone who thinks it was dirty is a whiny dumbass who needs to suck it up. His job was to get to the quarterback, Brady still had the ball when he was hit, so w/e suck it up.

  1. The only thing Matt Cassel has to achieve is to make the pundents talk about 'Matt' and not refer to 'Tom' at all. Not about what's missing, but about what's still present! Being backup to Brady doesn't mean not #1 quality! I expect by the end of the season Matt will look better than 95% of the rest of league QBs. He just needs to dope slap people into remembering he's the current No. 1 on Pats and not the #2 backup. Bust 'em up Cassel, 2008-09 season belongs to you. Tom did it to Drew, need I say anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I'll call you the 'the bust 'em up kid.' BUST 'EM UP!
