Rodney Harrison keeps it light

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 10, 2008 12:10 PM

FOXBOROUGH -- It has been a busy day here at Gillette Stadium, with Jets coach Eric Mangini and Jets quarterback Brett Favre holding conference calls, Patriots coach Bill Belichick holding a press conference, and media members having access to the locker room (11:10-11:55 a.m.).

Safety Rodney Harrison had reporters laughing.

When Judy Battista of the New York Times asked him if losing quarterback Tom Brady was the greatest challenge he has faced in football, Harrison said: "I can't say that. I'd have to say having Ryan Leaf quarterback us to a 1-15 record is probably the biggest challenge."

Harrison followed up his remarks by saying that perhaps Leaf -- now a high school golf coach -- could help him with his golf swing.

Harrison was referring to the Chargers' 1-15 season in 2000 in which Leaf, a former No. 2 overall draft choice, was the team's starting quarterback.

We'll have more from Gillette in a bit.
