Turnover on downs

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff September 7, 2008 03:49 PM

The Chiefs turned the ball on downs at the New England 5 with 37 seconds remaining.

The Patriots can run out the clock with no timeouts remaining for Kansas City.

  1. Why did the Chiefs get 5 plays? Two to the left with Ellis Hobbs, run play by Johnson, bobbled ball on goal line, throw to Bowe on the right side. What's the story?

  1. the Pats called a timeout at the 1st

  1. the first 1st-down play was wiped out because the Pats had called timeout just before the snap. The announcers caught it, and if you noticed, the time was also reset from 48 sec back the the 53 sec at the start of the series. So officially, there were only 4 plays at the 5 yd.line.

  1. The Pats called a time-out before the 1st play...for whatever reason, the refs just let the play go and then announced that the Pats had called the t/o before the snap and that the play didn't count.

  1. I saw that too... thought that was what the timeout after second (slash third) down was about. was one of the first 2 plays blown dead? if not, they didn't flip from 2nd to 3rd down (there were 2 2nd downs). amazing that no one, including BB, caught it...
