Video: Pats high on O'Connell
The Globe's Chris Gasper isn't trying to start a quarterback controversy, but believes that the Patriots are high on rookie Kevin O'Connell and notes that the first-year signal-caller is a heartbeat away from being the team's starting quarterback.
Click the video below to hear more of Gasper's thoughts on O'Connell. For more, check out Gasper's article on the rookie quarterback in Sunday's Globe.

Good, I hope this story gets into the press more
get O'Connell in there
With all due respect to Gasper and the rest of the meadia, it doesn't make a bit of difference what they think to BB and Pioli.
If the Patriots are 4-6 after around 10 games, I could see O'Connell taking the reigns.
If not, I still believe that this is Cassel's team. Either way, Cassel is probably gone next season.
The bigger question is... is Kevin O'Connell the quarterback of the future?
haha, wow, it took all of two weeks for a writer in NE to start bring up a QB controversy all by themselves. You guys just couldn't wait, it must have been boring all those years with just Brady and no QB controversy. Nice one. I get it, its a Bye week, nothing to talk about.
Greg,
Cassell was supposed to be gone this season
Cassell is a failed project that will be a free agent after this season
OConnell is the heir apparent to Brady....
OConnell should be in there while our wide receivers are still alive !!
He has the ability to throw the long ball completion which opens up the defense...We have a record setting wide receiver and we have only thrown the long ball once in three games ??? In order for this offense to be productive Moss and Welker have to be the main core of the attack as they were last year
Sonny O,
How do you know O'Connell can throw the long ball consistently in the NFL? You a scout? or did you catch a lot of Aztecs football? This is the kind of bs people put out there without any supporting evidence. Yes O'Connell could be a good player but his overall development is best served sitting on the bench his first year just like Brady did.
Gick,
Looks like Cassel is still here, supposed to be gone according to you not BB and Pioli who make the decisions.
I think that if the patriots lose to the 49ers o'connell should be given an opportunity. maybe he can actually throw deep.
Doesn't matter if it's O'Connell, Cassel, or a bag of baseballs. No Brady, No chance.
Wow Classless Concepts! You must be great at parties! So the Pats can't win without Brady?....Hmmm.... So how have other teams won without Brady? How did the F'n Giants win with Satan Manning's kid brother slipping away from Richard Seymour and Jarvis Green like a greased pig and then slinging Snuka bombs to David "Stuck 'em" Tyree?
I know the Pats are tied for last in TD's right now, but I wonder if anyone has noticed Cassel has an 87 passer rating. Not at all bad for his first 3 games. Maybe the touchdowns will come. But on the other hand, I would understand if O'Connel is given a chance, seeing as the supporting cast has to be considered top 3 in the league.
Experience is the best test. I would like to see O'Connell given a good test in a
already drowning season. Lets see what this kid has got!
Haven't we seen enough of Cassell? he is dissappointment at every game, Oconnell looked great in there.we should not waste the rest of the season on Cassell, he sucks.....
