Video: Reiss's key matchup

The Globe's Mike Reiss details his key matchup when the Patriots visit the Jets this Sunday in Week 2 of the NFL season.

To watch the video and see a written summary, click the "full entry" link below.

Written summary:

  • Much of the focus is naturally going to be on the quarterbacks -- Brett Favre and Matt Cassel -- and understandably so.
  • But look at the other moves the Jets made this offseason, super-sizing their team by adding 1,261 combined pounds in the form of nose tackle Kris Jenkins (6-4, 349), outside linebacker Calvin Pace (6-4, 270), right tackle Damien Woody (6-3, 335) and left guard Alan Faneca (6-5, 307).
  • The Jets presumably had the Patriots in mind with these moves, because they were tired of being run over.
  • The Jets are now better at the line of scrimmage, so the Patriots face a much different looking Jets team than they have in the past.
  • The line of scrimmage is always a key. Based on the changes the Jets have made, the spotlight shines a little brighter on that area this Sunday.

    1. I swear Mike, you're one of only a small handful of football "experts" that ever offers anything of substance, and you do it pretty objectively. Great points in this, I will be anxious to see how fast the Pats get off the snap on both sides of the ball.

      Thanks Mike!

    1. Every game is controlled at the line of scrimmage. Nothing new here...
