Addition to RB spot

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 11, 2008 05:56 PM

The Patriots promoted rookie RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis from the practice squad today, a move likely made with the health of running backs LaMont Jordan (right calf) and Laurence Maroney (shoulder) in mind.

To make room for Green-Ellis on the 53-man roster, the Patriots released WR Maurice Price.

Green-Ellis joined the Patriots as a free agent after going undrafted this year. The Ole Miss product has been on the team’s practice squad since the start of the season and was recently recognized as one of the Patriots’ practice players of the week. That honor goes to the players who best help prepare the team in the days leading up to a victory.

  1. Joe,
They wouldn't have moved him from the PS to the 53 man roster if they weren't going to activate him for tomorrow night's game. In addition to RB he can also play ST's, so he has additional value.

  1. Hello Mike,
In your post you mention several times, that when Patriots win the game, someone from Practice Sqad wear black jercy. Cause, he helped team prepare the best. Now, what about when Patriots don't win. Does someone still gets to wear the black jersy.

  1. Put Maroney on IR. He's not right, mentally or physically.

  1. Let's stop bashing Maroney until we know what the heck is wrong with him. Ben Jarvis is a young kid dying to earn a roster spot so it will be interesting to see if them use him on a running play or two. He was very decent in the preseason

  1. The coaches are playng the players they think give them the best chance to win. Sometimes a starter at 75% is better then a backup at 100%..

The only moron is the person who does not understand that fact.

  1. Sonny Olivar would you prefer norv turner, herm edwards, marty shotenheimer, lane kiffin, linehan or the Patriots and thier Moron Coaches.

Spoiled, whiny and completely ungrateful. Typical Boston sports fan.

    Grow up.

  1. I am happy to see this kid get a chance. Lets all hope he makes the most of this oppurtunity. I thought BenJarvus had impressive speed during preseason. He seemed like he could also catch the ball well. If he shows BB something more during some regular season games I wonder if Maroney may end up on IR since this seems to be a nagging injury?
