Belichick salutes Red Sox

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 17, 2008 01:45 PM

Patriots coach Bill Belichick opened his Friday press conference with some Red Sox talk.

"I couldn’t turn it off," he said of the Sox' playoff win over the Rays last night. "It didn’t look too good there when it was 7-0. Then it was it was 7-1. Then it was 7-4, then 7-6 ... I thought the Red Sox played with the heart of a champion last night. It was pretty impressive."

Belichick didn't turn the TV off at 7-0 because he felt the game was not over at that point.

"That is the difference between baseball and football. You can’t run out the clock," he said. "You have to get them out. It’s a tough nine outs. Joe Torre told me that and [Tony] LaRussa verified it. You have to get them out."

  1. I bet BB shows highlights from the last three innings to the team. Good message: don't give up, play 60, and always think you have a shot to win.

  1. Jason,

Right now he is better off showing a poster of Tom Brady to the team, pointing at it and saying "He'll be back next year, just hang in there".
