Jackson injury impact

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 30, 2008 05:13 PM

The Colts placed CB Marlin Jackson on season-ending injured reserve after he hurt his knee in today's practice. Jackson is a starter at right corner, opposite of Kelvin Hayden, and in nickel situations he would often move inside to cover the slot receiver.

Considering that the Patriots' leading receiver (Wes Welker) does some of his most damage in the slot, Jackson's injury significantly impacts one of the key individual matchups on the field.

The Colts are expected to move Tim Jennings into the starting lineup. The question is how they will approach nickel packages, as Dante Hughes could be the top option.

The complete Colts participation report:

Did Not Participate in Practice
RB Clifton Dawson (concussion)
WR Roy Hall (knee)
DB Kelvin Hayden (knee/hamstring)
DB Dante Hughes (ankle)
LB Freddy Keiaho (knee)
TE Tom Santi (shoulder)
WR Reggie Wayne (knee)

Full Participation in Practice
RB Joseph Addai (hamstring)
LB Gary Brackett (not injury related)
DE Dwight Freeney (not injury related)
DB Tim Jennings (not injury related)
DE Robert Mathis (not injury related)
S Bob Sanders (knee)
RB Dominic Rhodes (ankle)

  1. why would

LB Gary Brackett (not injury related)
DE Dwight Freeney (not injury related)
DB Tim Jennings (not injury related)
DE Robert Mathis (not injury related)

be listed at all if they had full participation in practice and weren't injured?

  1. Because they were all on Yesterday's Injury report as Did Not participate (Not injury Related). Probably just a rule that states you have to list them the day after or similar.

  1. Jackson's injury is big. I remember in last year's game he did a great job on Welker until he got injured in the third quarter.

  1. thats helpful if he doesnt play but im still worried if bob sanders comes back because they are a completely different team with him playing. Addai doesnt worry me too much though because they have been horrible running all year even when he was there.

  1. I'm disappointed in you Mike Reiss... first the tasteless TMZ videos of Brady and now your prediction of a Colts win...... Colts look terrible this year.... a 4 point win by them will be lucky... I thinks the Pats can blow these guys out.... Patriots by 2 TDs

  1. alex. I appreciate your re-ra Pats mentality but don't bust on Mike Reiss. He is by far the best Pats person in Boston media and always tells it like it is with no biases.... Cut him a break. Btw..Sanders will have a field day with this QB and OL and Manning will have a field day with our secondary. I sadly must agree with Mike. This could be a blowout as bad as the fins or SD game....

  1. Alex....you stopped at the tasteless video's. What about fathering Brittney Spears second baby? Mike, we know it was you!

Happy Halloween Reiss. Great job on the reporting.

    Go PATS!!!
