NFL sends Raiders letter regarding tampering accusation

It is about time that something happens to these people who just spread lies and accusations.

Sweet justice. I guess too many teams were bad mouthing the Patriots last year and Goodell had to make it illegal. I hope he follows through and takes a draft pick.

As a Pats fan I'm upset we lost a draft pick this year over last years stupid spy gate crap, but I have to say possibly losing a draft pick over tampering accusations is even more insane.

I think every team/coach/owner that continues to jump on the "the patriots stole, hurt, cheated, or beat me up for my lunch money" band wagaon" and slander or otherwise disparage the Patriots organization should be fined the same amount they fined Belichek. Belicheck paid and never sad boo - he pushed the envelope and got caught and paid up and shut up - the whiners out there still crying over why we beat them whenever it was that we slashed their dreams of being the best (cause everyone seems to have a woes me story of when the Pats undeservingly beat their a$$) have malicious intents and should be punished fully when they are proven to be liars! Long Live Bill, Brady and Kraft and the best organziation to ever grace the HFL.

I hope the Commish throws them the high hard one.

At the least they should give us back the 4th we sent over to them because of the false and baseless accusations. But I am not holding out any hope because we wont get a thing.

I think Mr. Davis is showing the whole world his senitlity. Poor guy. I am glad Goodell is handling it...but honestly-IF i were a Raiders fan (which I am not in any way shape or form), I would be really unhappy.

As much as I truly believe the entire Spygate nonsense, and then all of the piling on afterwards was overhyped, overblown, and quite frankly, overpunished (a first round pick? for that? are you kidding me? The Broncos won two Super Bowls with an illegal roster and it only cost them two 3rd rounders over three years!!)..........I feel that taking draft picks away from the Raiders just because their senile old fool of an owner can't stop himself from making idiotic public pronouncements would also be an example of being thrown in jail for going 60 MPH in a 55 MPH zone.

Fine the Raiders a few bucks and publicly reprimand them with a letter, etc., but don't take away draft picks just because "Weekend at Bernie's" Davis can't keep his trap shut.

Hi Mike, Al Davis has certainly lost the few marbles he had left. But it's a tough position for Goodell and the NFL owners. Davis was a founding father in the AFL and has fought the league many times over the years. I wouldn't put it past him to shut down the Raider operation and take his team out of the league if he thinks he's being abused. Maybe Goodell could get Davis's MD to change his medication. Whatever happens, it will be fun to watch. - Keep up the great work.

Punish Al Davis by making him choose between rehiring Lane Kiffin and losing his entire draft next season.

Al, in his old age, has forgotten a lot of things. Obviously he's forgotten he's originally from Brockton although I'm sure he thinks Billy Sullivan still owns the team.

Definitely take a pick away and fine them. Our whole team didn't spy on anyone, but our whole team had to pay, they should too.

I think the message that Mr. Goodell is trying to make was needed but I think it's a little harsh in taking draft picks and $$. Lets face it Oakland needs all the help they can get. NOTE: I have been a PATS fan since I was old enough to walk. I think the punshment should be a verbal press release on camera stating the appology on the false statement.

It has been a foregone conclusion that Al Davis should step aside. This is the only move that Goodell should be working toward. Davis has been a blight on the NFL for more than a few years now. If it was not for the popularity of the NFL, Davis's Raiders would have been bankrupt already. Their fans need to speak up. They deserve better than to be the laughing stock of the NFL for the last few years. All of this shame goes back to the Owner. I can only imagine his next move will be appointing himself the Head Coach before this season ends. I feel sorry for the Oakland Fans, the players, & wonder how the coaching staff is able to go to work for that franchise under the current owner.

While he's at it he should make Davis pay his fired coach. Can you imagine Davis saying that he was communicating with his coach and by that he considers sending a letter saying we drafted Jamarcus Russell over your objections now get over it communicationg. If anyone said that to Davis in his hey day he would have had a hissy fit.

Al Davis really needs to get put in check - and I think that this is Godell's first step in doing that. I'm not sure that draft pick penalties are the way to go here, but it would certainly get the point across: Don't make false accusations that can't be supported about other teams (or individuals) in the league. I think it is also important to note that the Pats don't get the Raiders draft picks here, they just disappear. The Jets didn't get our first rounder for blowing the whistle in SpyGate. There are no winners, only losers when people can't play by the rules in the NFL. Even as a Pats fan, I love it when Roger lays down the authoratitive hammer - he is more than fair in his rulings.

It's about time. Every time one of these teams accuses the Pats of cheating, they are hurting the NFL brand and Goodell needs to start coming down hard. The Pats got caught with Spygate and they paid a price, but all the other baseless allegations do nothing more than hurt the entire league's image. If Davis has proof, he should present it. If not, he should be fined and publicly reprimanded, for the good of the NFL.

Look, we all must admit that the Patriots had to cheat to win their titles. Yes, we finally got caught and now we're worthless. But we should be used to it... we've always been losers throughout the NFL's history... Even the Raiders are a better franchise than we are. They have a long history of victory. We should not crucify Al Davis for what he said. You never know how true it could be. I would not trust Bill Bilacheat as far as I could throw his fat butt... Godell should switch drafy picks in the first round between the Raiders and the Pats. (of course the Pats will have a better season)

Raiders are one of the richest franchise's in the NFL and have been for many many years. Al Davis is over bearing to say the least, but Is allowed to speak his mind. He is old school, none of this dancing around after every play... leave the field due to a cramp BS.
