No downgraded players

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 4, 2008 11:18 PM

The Patriots did not downgrade any players on their injury report leading into Sunday's game against the host 49ers.

CB Lewis Sanders (hamstring), LB Eric Alexander (hamstring) and WR Kelley Washington (right ankle) are all doubtful. All three players missed practice throughout the week.

If Sanders does not play, that likely means rookie CBs Terrence Wheatley and Jonathan Wilhite will get bumped up the depth chart. Sanders has been the team's third corner, but he does not come on the field in most nickel situations (safety Brandon Meriweather does).

Alexander is mostly a special teams performer, and rookie inside linebacker Gary Guyton has assumed some of those duties.

Washington earned some time as a No. 4 receiver, and makes most of his impact on special teams. Sam Aiken has filled some of those responsibilities. Maurice Price could also get a look there.
