FOXBOROUGH -- The New England Patriots activated veteran offensive lineman Stephen Neal to the active roster from the reserve/physically unable to perform list today. Additionally, the Patriots placed running back Laurence Maroney on the reserve/injured list with a shoulder injury and released offensive lineman Dan Connolly.Neal, 32, has played in 55 career games with 52 starts for the Patriots since entering the NFL in 2001. The 6-foot, 4-inch, 305-pound offensive lineman was originally signed by New England as a rookie free agent out of Cal State-Bakersfield on July 23, 2001. He began the 2001 season on the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad before being signed to the Patriots’ active roster on Dec. 12, 2001. He made his NFL debut on Oct. 6, 2002 and played in two games with one start that season before being placed on the reserve/injured list. In 2008, Connolly has been listed as a day-of-game inactive for each of the Patriots’ five games.

Is Neal playing tonight ?
And ... if so ... how long till he goes on IR ?
I guess you can call tonight's game Detha's last stand.
Richardson may not be a future superstar, but he looked pretty good in camp last year before he got "hurt". He may not have blazing speed, but he is fast enough to play zone and also appears to be smart enough to stick to the game plan and not gamble on the big interception.
He now has 1.5years into the Patriots defensive system so he should know the position if he is called into action in the regular defense.
What a shame for Maroney. I know he had his critics, but I think his best is yet to come. We saw glimpses of his best at the end of last season (except for the SB...). I hope he gets healthy - finally - for 2009.
Hey,if Neal wasn't playing he wouldn't have been activated. He is a solid guard and I think a difference maker.Teams have been getting presure up the middle so if he can give Cassell an extra second it could be just what he needs.
Maroney is a bust....21st pick overall has to be a 1,000 yard rusher every year. He is brittle and I would not be surprised to see the Pats pick a RB in next years 2nd or 3rd round.
