Patriots release statement

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 23, 2008 07:39 PM

The Patriots released the following statement tonight regarding an ESPN report that the organization was upset with quarterback Tom Brady for choosing to have knee surgery in Los Angeles rather than locally.

"Today, ESPN cited an unnamed source who supposedly expressed the feelings of the Patriots ‘organization.’ This unsubstantiated report does not represent the team's views whatsoever. We have supported Tom Brady one hundred percent from day one of this process and will continue to do so. We issued a statement last Saturday expressing our complete organizational support for Tom. That support includes all aspects of the process. Unfortunately, our statement was not mentioned or referenced in ESPN’s report. Today, we reiterate our total support for Tom as he recovers from his injury."

Here's our latest story (published tonight) regarding Brady's knee.

  1. Joe Montanna is the best QB of all time! Shady Brady couldn't hold his jock!
With a loser coach like Belecheat any high school QB would look good.
I hope Jackson runs all over them this Sunday. Go RAMS

  1. There often seems to be mystery and intrigue when a local superstar gets major surgery... Let's hope Tom will be fully ready to go next summer!

  1. ESPN: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives....

Sports as a soap opera is better for ratings than sports as a selection of pastimes, and most of us eat it right up.

  1. You only have two knees, Los Angeles has some of the best Orthopaedic Surgeons, and Tom is from CA, and he has a son there, and his parents are there, and his friends are there so why not have surgery there?

  1. Glad to hear the organization is backing their franchise; Let's hope that this infection heals and that Tom Brady does not have to undergo any further surgery.

  1. ESPN is absolutely pathetic.

How anyone can actually watch that network is beyond me.

  1. Giants Fan. Absolutely no class, this is a story about Tom Brady, nothing that you wrote has any place here. Anyone who is a sports fan should be hoping that Tom Brady gets well - all is not about football and being a hater makes you a pitiful fool who needs to get a life.

  1. Get well Tom. You are the best and EVERYONE knows it.

  1. Hey Giants Fan ...all I have to say is since 2002, Boston Championships 6 - New York 1, and that was a joke, I will give you kudos for the Super Bowl, won fair and square. You play that game 10 times, we win 7. ENUF SAID......come back to me after Coughlin and your (cough) G-String Men, win 3 outta 4....otherwise get OUTTA here and go read your rag, the New York Post

  1. Brady went to a Hospital that specilized in sports injuries, not some mom and pop doctor. And (I want to get this posted) so screw off ESPN. You are like MTV now, outdated and irrelevant. No one needs you to get what we need - Real news. We have Reiss for that.

  1. Just another jab by ESPN. Notice the non-firestorm that the Favre helping other teams story has created because EVERY ESPN guy is publicly supporting Favre? Brady will be fine.

  1. I have only one question for Giant Fan. If you don't like patriots, why the hell you check Mr. Mike Reiss Pieces ? .. hehehehhe..

  1. Hey Giants Fan, you read the Boston media about sports more than the NY papers?!!! Why is that? Ohhhh I know why, there is nothing going on in NY!!! By the way, how did the Mets/Yankees do in the playoffs this year? HA!

  1. Seems like ESPN made the conscious decision last year to sacrifice some respect among New Englanders (who are among the most passionate pro sports fans in the country) to increase their overall ratings. Since most of the country is sick of Boston sports, ESPN knew that overplaying stuff like "spygate" would attract Boston haters (who outnumber Boston fans) to their network. Positive Pats coverage on ESPN has become about as rare as positive Obama coverage on Fox.

  1. ESPN has departed so far from its orginal days of informative sports commentary. I do not watch ESPN period. Their credibility lies somewhere around the sub-basement with CNN and MSNBC. I wonder if they are losing viewers as compare to the NFL network, I would have to imagine that this is the case. There really is no place for a 24 hour Sports channel. when this "money making" format is adopted, the intergrity of true sports reporting goes out the window and is repalced by any possible story true or not.

  1. Without Tom Brady the Patriots would be a ho-hum team. Tommy, get well soon as we miss you leadership, talent and class. And Giant Fan, enjoy your championship[ now as you may have to wait 18 years for the next one!
