Pats build lead, 24-14

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 5, 2008 06:21 PM

The Patriots went up 24-14 on a 2-yard touchdown run by Kevin Faulk -- on a direct snap on fourth down -- with 5:25 remaining in the third quarter.

The direct snap included a fake from QB Matt Cassel, who acted as if the snap was over his head.

The Patriots' scoring drive was 6 plays and covered 24 yards. It was set up by Rodney Harrison's interception.

  1. kudos to the Pat's D. They put a lot of stops and gave Matt plenty of chances to score. What's wrong with Maroney?

  1. OK can the Pats please bench Maroney permanently! That cowardly deal with him running out of bounds making the Pats 4th & 1, when all he had to do was put his shoulder down. Enoughs, enough with this guy. He's taking reps away from Morris, who's much better in my mind.

Mike - also, when you do your study of the game tape, I'd be interested to see how many of these sacks (5, right now) are Cassell's fault and how many are protection problems. He seems to be holding the ball too long and hesitant to throw the ball away. I'm having Tony Eason chills watching him take sacks.
