SAN DIEGO – Comments from Rodney Harrison following the Patriots' 30-10 loss to the Chargers:

On what the Chargers did to their defense
“We did a terrible job of playing the deep balls. You just can’t win the National Football League giving up 50 yard bombs and pass interference for 50-plus yards.”

On what can be done to correct their problems
“We’ve got to pay more attention to detail. We have to cover better. We have to have more awareness. You just can’t win like that in the National Football League. It’s tough enough. The teams are so good, the players are so athletic. You just cannot give them plays. We just kicked ourselves in the butt. We made a few big plays, but you just have to play better. We can’t give up those deep balls like that.

On Philip Rivers
“Obviously he played well. We knew that he was an improving quarterback. He’s going to do nothing but get better each and every week, each and every year. We were very impressed with him. He made a lot of tough throws. He managed the game well. He played smart. He played tough. They have so many weapons, you just can’t keep giving up plays like that.”

On not being able to punch it in early in the third quarter
“It was a huge play for us because if we score then it’s 17-10. With everything that went wrong for us, we still had an opportunity to go in there and be competitive. After that happened, it sucked the wind out of us and we were done after that. We just couldn’t recover. We had opportunities, whether it was down the field or on the goal-line. You just have to take advantage of it.”
