A look at the San Francisco perspective heading into Sunday's Patriots-49ers game:

  • Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat looks closer at former first-round draft choice Manny Lawson, and how the hamstring injury that will sideline him against the Patriots might affect the 49ers. Lawson has been utilized mostly on first down.

  • Maiocco, writing in his blog, came away impressed with Patriots coach Bill Belichick's knowledge of the 49ers.

  • Ditto for Mike Sando of ESPN.com in his NFC West blog.

  • Sando, in his NFC West blog, also explores how the 49ers utilized their offensive personnel in their 31-17 loss to the Saints on Sunday.

  • Scouts Inc., linking through Sando's NFC West blog on ESPN.com, looks at how the 49ers can keep QB J.T. O'Sullivan from getting hit.

  • John Crumpacker of the San Francisco Chronicle writes on rookie Josh Morgan's recovery from a staph infection, while his notebook checks in with former Raiders offensive tackle Barry Sims, now with the 49ers.

  • Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News (registration required) shines the spotlight on the Patriots as they prepare to face the 49ers. Brown's notebook checks in with CB Nate Clements, who faces a challenge in defending Randy Moss.

  • Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee focuses on the 49ers' protection problems, and how the Patriots could potentially exploit that area.
