Welcome to Candlestick

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 5, 2008 11:25 AM

SAN FRANCISCO -- Welcome to Candlestick Park, where the Patriots visit the 49ers today (4:15 EDT).

It is a picture-perfect day here. It is currently 60 degrees and sunny. The temperature is expected to stay around 60 leading up to kickoff. Winds are likely to be around 9-10 miles per hour.

This is a throwback stadium. Unlike Gillette Stadium back in Foxborough, Candlestick is more cirular in shape and is completely closed, with orange and red seats throughout.

Although the stadium is called Candlestick Park, the field itself is called Bill Walsh Field.

I am currently sitting in the baseball dugout here at field level, which is a reminder that this used to be a baseball venue, where the San Francisco Giants played.

More to come throughout the day.
