Wilfork meeting with NFL commissioner today

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff October 28, 2008 02:58 PM

Patriots nose tackle Vince Wilfork and his agent Kennard McGuire are in New York today to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell regarding a possible suspension, an NFL source has confirmed.

The meeting was first reported by the website profootballtalk.com.

On Sunday, Adam Schefter of the NFL Network reported that Wilfork could face suspension for an elbow to the head of quarterback Jay Cutler during the Patriots' game against the Broncos on Oct. 20.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked about Schefter's report during his weekly interview on sports radio WEEI on Monday.

"I was informed that they're going to look into the matter," Belichick responded to host Glenn Ordway. "I went and looked at our film of the Denver game and there isn't anything on there. You can't see any contact between Vince and Jay Cutler on our game tape. That's all I have to go on. I'd say it's a league matter and whatever the league is going to do with it, they're doing with it."

Belichick acknowledged that it's possible the Broncos had a different angle, or they filmed the play longer.

  1. What a bunch of babies the Broncos are. Can't they just take their beating and move on? I HATE Roger Goodell and all of his stupid suspensions. He gets right on all of those but he lets the Matt Walsh thing drag out forever. Long live the Nancy Football League!

  1. Ok wait, I’m confused. This illegal hit wasn't broadcast on TV but Denver has video of the illegal hit? The SpyGate saga left me truly confused about the presence of video cameras at games. Mike - can you refresh my memory as to what the official ruling is again?

  1. I hope Vince asks Goodell for a clear, explanation why Pollard was not fined

  1. Wilfork is a hack. But he's our hack....

  1. Football= violent collision driven sport.....
Why are we B*tching up this game?

  1. How come just about everything the Pats do winds up with a fine. Was this really worse than the Pollard hit, I don't think so

Is it possible to impeach a Commissioner, cause seriously to save the NFL that is what must happen

  1. Why don't they just fine him? Three players from Denver were each fined $5000 for illegal hits. If Wilfork gets suspended, those three guys should get suspended as well.

  1. Ok, Mr. Goodell you are the man wielding all the power in the NFL, but I must say with no logic whatsoever and to the detriment of many players/teams. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE HECK HAVE YOU DONE ABOUT MARVIN HARRISON OF THE COLTS?? A person gets shot with his gun and the gun is found in one of his buildings and there is a pending lawsuit. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS?? WHY HAVEN'T YOU DONE ANYTHING!!!

  1. Did Pollard get fined for his cheapshot on Brady???? Goodell really needs to think hard about taking action against Wilfork.

  1. I agree with Alex. Can we not go a single week without a major suspension of some sort? Did Roger Goodell ever even play football? He doesn't seem to realize that a 325lbs man running at full speed cannot stop on a dime. Things happen during plays. Where have you gone Paul Tagliabue? This really is the "No Fun League"

  1. By "hack", I have to assume you mean "guy who pushes the limits on the rules". I can't imagine that you mean the guy is a so-so or worse player. He's a beast! But he does find himself in the Commish's sites more often than I'd prefer. Re-sign the big man!

  1. when you have a history like wilfork, you have to look at everything he does. now that harrison is gone for good, someone has to take over as your dirty player. if i recall, weren't there grumblings about a possible "dirty hit" on brady week 1???

  1. Sounds like Big Brother Goodell picks and chooses which miscreant he wants to hold to public scrutiny each week. Kinda like "The Crime of the Week". There's no justice in a dictatorship, folks.

  1. Babies!! Wilfork is a cheap shot artist! Fact!!

  1. It is richly ironic that it is the Broncos pissing and moaning. For years it has been well known that Denver's O line is the dirtiest in the league. They teach their guys to chop and cut block.F the Denver Broncos.

  1. wilfork owns you!
call a whaaaaaaaaabulance foe these pansies.

  1. Wilfork has participated in many dirty plays over the years and has been penalized during pivotal plays as well. He is not cinderella.

  1. I have no idea how often they vote for nfl commish but if I was bob kraft I would do everything in my power to get this clown out. He has had a bais against the pats since he took office and this is just one more example of it.

  1. Why does this Board always seem to be clogged up with Patriots-hating trolls? Don't you trolls have lives? All you can do is hang around on some other team's Board and talk trash? Please, trolls, go back to the Board of whatever pathetic team you root for.

But funny how there aren't any Indy trolls here anymore, isn't it?

  1. This game was 2 weeks ago and it is just being brought up now???

The Rams are sending the commish THEIR game tape to complain that the Pats got away with penalties. I know what is going on. With all the injuries we have we are not suppose to win but we are and this is the only way someone can get back at us. WAAAAHHHHHH I don't like the Patriots...Well here is a clue when you play us WIN THE GAME ON THE FIELD

  1. The broncos had nothing to do with the allegation. BOTH of these franchises along with the Steelers are the best run in football. Don't be ignorant. I love the Broncos, Wilfork is a hack and the Denver O line is notoriously cheap. Everyone is right, The pats gave us our beating but we all know that game was lost by the Broncos (who are killing themselves) much more than it was won by the Pats. Lets not forget how pivotal the Champ injury was... he was owning Moss (like he always has). We will see you in the playoffs

  1. Paul has it right.

Nobody got suspended back when a Bronco Offensive lineman chopped Patriot LB Brian Cox and broke his leg during our first Super Bowl run.

I guess it is OK to cheapshot someone if you are an offensive player (Hines Ward excepted).

Don't want Wilfolk to whack your QB? Try blocking him for a change.

  1. Broncos, Dude. The Patriots and every other team in the NFL is running all over the Broncos. Champ Bailey shutting down Moss means nothing when the Patriot Runners are getting 8 - 10 yards per carry. And any team that cannot stop the run will not be in the playoffs. So see ya next year.

  1. broncs,

Your team isnt making the playoffs. As for making excuses about champ getting hurt the game was won in the trenches. Your defense stinks and couldnt stop a pop warner running back.

  1. Let's be honest here .... Wilfork has a history with discipline. I have not seen the footage of him hitting Cutlet yet.

But to be fair, Goddell has to be consistent. The gentlemen above noted that nothing had been done about Marvin Harrison yet. This is a clear-cut example of not being consistent commish.

I hope he is not suspended for the Colts game, because we need him bad. What a coincedence that he gets interviewed the dayweek before the Colts game ?!
