Bits from Belichick
FOXBOROUGH -- Here are a few tidbits from Bill Belichick's morning press conference, as the Patriots continue preparations for Thursday night's AFC East clash with the New York Jets at Gillette Stadium.
1. Pedigree vs. performance -- Belichick was asked a lot of questions about how the team has been able to plug in players like undrafted rookies running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis and linebacker Gary Guyton, as well as late-round draft choices like quarterback Matt Cassel and still have success. "It's not about your pedigree," he said. "It's about your performance. I like that. That's the way it should be and that's the way we try to make it."
2. Brady's back -- Belichick acknowledged that quarterback Tom Brady is back with the team rehabbing, although Cassel said that Brady is not taking part in positional meetings. "It's always great to have Tom around," Belichick said. "He's a very positive guy. It's great." (For video, follow the "full entry" link at the end of this entry).
3. Preventing big plays -- The Patriots have done a better job the last two weeks of not giving up the big play in the passing game on defense. That has to be a function of team defense, Belichick said. "It's not just the corner or the safety or whoever," he said. "It's making the ball come out on time with the pass rush and disguising coverages, so it's less clear to the quarterback where the weaknesses in the coverage are. It's team defense when you give them up and it's team defense when you stop them."

That right there is the reason he is a great coach ....
It is about TEAM Defence and being strong as a unit together on the field.
I hope the D-Line gets after Favre tomorrow night
In Belichik we trust ...
They should. They should be FIRED up. Our turf this time. But I think it'll still be a closer-type game.
This game is in the hands of the two coordinators, Pees and McDaniels. Pees must ensure that there is constant pressure on Favre, force him into making the kind of mistakes we all know he is capable of making. If they play soft on him you can expect him to have a field day and find receivers, eventually, open because of our piss poor corners.
On offense, McDaniels needs to forego any sort of conservative play calling and use the passing game from the get go, with the inclusion of more screens, more tight end play, and some deep posts to Moss, getting away from the deep sideline fly pattern that never worksd, so why the hell ius he calling them? Also, get rid of that damned WR screen, it isnt working and if Mcd keeps calling it expecting a different result, well we all know that is the definition of "insanity" To McDaniels, take the freaking offensive handcuffs off, especially in the red zone, PLAY ACTION ON FIRSTR DOWN IS NOT AGAINST THE RULES........
Mike Allen, even when the WR screen doesn't seem to be working, it's working. If you re-watch Welker's long reception in the last game, part of the reason he was so far away from the defender is because the guy bit on Welker's fake, which wouldn't have worked if they weren't so afraid of the screen. It turned out to be a very important play in a drive that led to the first TD.
MarkZ, same comment is also true in regards to Mike Allen's criticism on the plays Moss. The patriots strategy for Moss looks designed around forcing teams to double cover but then directing the ball to other receivers like Welker, Gaffney. It's very smart and if Gaffney had caught the ball in Indy, we would be looking at a "must win" for the Jets.
