Nuggets from Gillette

FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick (10:50 a.m.) held his regular Friday press conference and media members had access to the locker room (11-11:45 a.m.) at Gillette Stadium. A few items of note:

  • 1) Richard Seymour on his availability. Defensive lineman Richard Seymour, who has been held out of the last two practices due to a knee injury, was asked if he'd be ready to go for Sunday's game against the Steelers. "Absolutely, hopefully, that's the game-plan," he said. "At this time of year, everybody is banged up and not feeling 100 percent, but you try to go out and give it your best shot."

  • 2) Vince Redd draws raves as Joey Porter. Patriots coach Bill Belichick was asked about rookie OLB Vince Redd, and what earned him one of the black jerseys as a Practice Player of the Week. The Practice Player of the Week is awarded to the players who are deemed to have best prepared the team in the days leading up to a victory. Belichick explained that Redd played the role of Dolphins OLB Joey Porter last week, and then pointed out that Porter had just 1 tackle. Asked if Redd tuned up for the role by doing some trash talking, Belichick laughed.
