Patriots react to Law signing

FOXBOROUGH -- One storyline leading into Thursday's game between the Patriots and Jets is Ty Law signing with the Jets. Patriots players reacted to the news today.

"It's going to be a little weird," defensive end Ty Warren said, noting that this isn't the first time the Patriots have played against him. "Ty is Ty, like Manny is Manny."

Warren reflected on being a teammate of Law's in 2003 and 2004 when asked if Law will be able to contribute on Thursday.

"I know Ty has a good work ethic. I remember as a young player driving in at 6 in the morning and seeing him running five miles up and down Rte. 1 before the day had even begun. I'm sure he's been in shape and he's probably been talking to them the last couple of weeks knowing this could come."

Said running back Kevin Faulk: "I'm happy for him that he's back in the game. At the same time, we're playing against him, so you can't be that happy."

Coach Bill Belichick was asked if he'd maintained contact with Law.

"I haven't talked to Ty in probably a couple months," he said.

  1. Webster defines duplicitous as: "I haven't talked to Ty in probably a couple months,"

While factual, I'm sure Scott Pioli was his mouthpiece for the past 1-2 weeks.

  1. With the piss poor corenrbacks this team has, he should have been talking to Law.

Belichick blew this one, as he did with Asante Samuel, IMO. All you have to do is look over at the corner position and see Hobbs starting. That's enough to get anyone sick.

  1. I'm sure the team in some way was talking with Ty... I would have loved to have him back. Say what you will, but he's been fairly durable. Other than 2004 where he had that foot injury, he's been pretty steady back there. I also think he's still better than Hobbs and O'Neal...he could have definitely helped.

    Oh well...

  1. Bottom line is, the Pats put a price tag on value. Ty Law is considered a Safety at his age and with his ability to cover ground. This is another desperation move by the Jets, the paid Law more than NE would have, and Law gets what he wants, which is to start at CB. Ty is all about Ty. There should be some great opportunities to work the left side of the field on offense with Welker and Gaffney or even Moss on that side, with Law not being in tune with his teammates while they try to play man or zone. The Jets aren't playing Cincy, Arizona, KC or Stl tonight. Pats secondary is actually coming together pretty well considering the losses of Samuey, Harrison, and even new players like Sanders and Wheatley.
