Randy Moss on 1-on-1 coverage

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff November 23, 2008 05:40 PM

MIAMI -- Patriots WR Randy Moss held a postgame press conference and was asked about being played man-to-man single coverage at times during the game.

“I don’t know why coach disrespected me like that," he said. "I’m who I am and I love to do what I do. Anytime I feel disrespected I want to go out there and make it happen. I think they disrespected me today by playing the single coverage and letting me do what I love to do, which is getting in the end zone.”

Dolphins DB Jason Allen often drew the assignment against Moss.

“I don’t really care who it is. I think if I see single coverage man to man I feel I can beat anybody in this league on any given day," Moss said. "I think today was just one of those days where it was something I hadn’t seen in a while. I always preach every time I see single coverage that most of the time the safety is over the top so it really looks like single, but it’s double. Double Moss. But today was single coverage. The safety stayed in the middle and the offense executed.

"I think we really came to play today. At times we spread it. We still have a lot to work on and this will be a hell of a week, getting ready to play Pittsburgh. They’re playing pretty good ball. Hopefully we’re up to the challenge."

Moss also commented on QB Matt Cassel.

"I think Matt is getting in a comfort zone and at the same time he’s getting in his we’re getting in ours. What I mean by that he has to not just feel out his receivers and running backs, but the offensive line out, too. I think the other team is getting a feel for how Matt is playing -- he’s playing some hellified ball -- and stepping up and we’re behind him.”

  1. So if he's not disrespected he doesn't wanna "go out there and make it happen"? Cool quote I guess, but a little iffy.

  1. Randy's real strength is in his modesty.

  1. What an idiot...plays a GREAT game and then has to act like an idiot...i don't get why he wouldn't be thanking the other coach. It's the type of thing you think and don't say. I'll take him over TO every day of the week though.

  1. i don't think it was moss they were disrespecting. i think miami bet that if they put an extra player on the pass rush or in coverage in other areas cassel would lose control.

this game would have been epic were it not for key turnovers keeping miami in the game.

  1. Moss is the man. It's laughable how uptight fans call him an idiot. Loosen up.

  1. Best WR in football. Sparano is a fool to man up on him, especially when Gaffney is dropping balls all over the place.

  1. An "idiot" ?? you must be a jets fan ! The guy makes millions of dollars, both Brady and Coach B have stated that Moss is one of the smartest football players they have ever played with when it comes to understanding the game. As for Matt Cassell I wish there was a way the pats could keep him around like Montana / Young. The kid has made the $240.00 I shelled out for the NFL Ticket this season go from bust to worth every penny , Thanks Matt !

  1. Not a leader like Jerry Rice...and not as consistent..

  1. No disrespect to Jerry Rice, he certainly had a nice career . Randy Moss is the best wide reciever in the history of football. The debate begins at 2nd place, not 1st. Moss is in a category by himself.

  1. Not a leader like Jerry Rice...and not as consistent..

But a better natural receiver who as of last year, finally had a good qb throwing to him.

  1. Wow, good sure. Full of himself, most certainly. Let your game talk, not your smart mouth. Top it off you look like and idiot, take 2 seconds to remove your headphones.
