Video: Reiss on Ty Law

FOXBOROUGH -- The Globe's Mike Reiss talks about the Jets' signing of free agent defensive back Ty Law. Click the player above to hear Reiss's thoughts on the move and what it might mean to the Patriots.

Follow the "full entry" link below to watch the video or read a written summary.

Written summary:

  • Ty Law might not be the player he once was, but he can still help a team. This looks like a good move for the Jets.
  • Much like a baseball team gets a shot in the arm at the trading deadline, Law's signing should be a boost to the Jets. Football seasons are long and teams sometimes can feed off an addition like this.
  • The flip side is that to make room for Law, the Jets released Justin Miller. The Patriots might consider Miller, as he's a solid returner and could add depth in the secondary.

    1. Mike,

Thomas not yet on IR? Still a chance he might return this year? Think about it, he heals in six to eight weeks and he might be available for the post-season. Unless there is a pressing need for a roster spot, why not?

    1. Mike,

Nice analysis, but you didn't discuss why he didn't go to the patriots. Does BB think he is too slow. If so, I want someone to tell us.(Tell us if that is true about Lynch as well) With really on one solid corner (Hobbs) the Patriots could have used Law. Perhaps Miller will work out for us, but I want an explanation. Was it that Law wanted more money then the Pats would give ,or is it that BB is just too prideful to go back to players like him?
