Video: Jets vs. Pats

FOXBOROUGH -- Globe football writers Chris Gasper and Mike Reiss provide insight and analysis as the Patriots prepare to host the Jets in a key AFC East clash Thursday night at Gillette Stadium.

Gasper: 3 things to watch vs. Jets

Written Summary

Gasper says to keep an eye on the following three areas:
  • Coaching matchup -- Which team will make the best use of their time during a short week? It's always a chess match when it's Eric Mangini vs. Bill Belichick. Will either team do something exotic, even with short time to implement it?
  • Pass protection for Pats -- The Patriots have done great job the last two weeks of protecting Matt Cassel, but the Jets are second in the NFL with 31 sacks and expect them to bring more pressure than in the first meeting.
  • Wilfork vs. Jenkins -- These two nose tackles -- Vince Wilfork for the Patriots and Kris Jenkins for the Jets -- could dictate how this game plays out as both teams want to run the ball.

Reiss: Turnovers will be key

Written Summary

  • These two teams are so evenly matched, that it's impossible to determine a single key matchup. Look for turnovers to decide who wins this battle. The Jets are plus-7 in turnover differential in their last two wins, but quarterback Brett Favre is prone to the big mistake.

  1. okay Pats fans its what you have been waiting for. Pats will go 4 wide and spread the field often. When we run from a normal set you roll Matt left or right. BB is going to run Jenkins all over the field and when we do handoff to a back it will be out of the spread.

  1. Does anybody out there have Brady's numbers at this point in '01 as compared to Cassel's?
