Welker shows Texas Tech pride

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff November 19, 2008 12:15 PM

FOXBOROUGH -- It's a big week of preparations for the Patriots as their Sunday clash at Miami will have significant playoff ramifications, but that didn't stop one player from lightening the mood today.

Receiver Wes Welker, engulfed by reporters, paused from answering questions and offered up one of his own:

"No questions about my hat or anything?" asked Welker, who was donning a red Texas Tech winter cap. "How 'bout those Red Raiders?"

Welker, a Texas Tech alum, was representing his alma mater leading up to Saturday's big game at Oklahoma. It's No. 2 Texas Tech against No. 5 Oklahoma.

"This is going to be a tough game for us, going into Norman and things like that," he said. "We're excited. I know all our fans are excited, everyone I've been talking to back in Oklahoma and Texas are real excited. We'll have to bring our best game to match up against them."

  1. What about Sammy Morris? Isn't he from Texas Tech also?

  1. That's what I like about Welker; not as much his play as that swagger. It's almost too much swagger. Almost. But not .

  1. Yes Jim, Sammy is from Texas Tech also. He actually started playing at Texas Tech before Wes did. I didn't see any interviews from Sammy though. The Pats are getting a few more fans from Texas watching your games since you got Wes and Sammy.

    Go Texas Tech! Beat Oklahoma!

  1. Sammy Morris? Yes he is, as am I. There is a group called the Aggies who know them both very well.

  1. Sammy Morris is a great Red Raider. He is one of my favorites because he survived some real challenges and elevated himself. He is a class act.

    Go Tech!!!!
