  1. Geez, who are they going to bring back next. . .Andre Tippett, to help with the defense and maybe John Hannah to help with the offensive line?

  1. This is the craziest season since Drew went down. You can't say it hasn't been exciting to watch.

  1. With those many injuries, Seau will contribute a lot with the team..

  1. So much for big things in the playoffs. I don't understand why Junior's doing this, the Patriots have little chance of going to the Superbowl so what is he to gain. Make no sense.

  1. Obviously, they knew Thomas couldn't come back...very happy to see Junior back in a Pats' uniform

  1. I know signing a soon-to-be 40-year-old LB is NOT something that's exciting, but consider this:

Seau, even at 39, is better than most LB's at 32. With our injuries, and the likelihood that we'll have to win out (possibly even have to win the division) in order to make the playoffs, we NEED linebackers that can come in and know the system.

We don't have the ability to bring someone along. They need players to play right away and hit the ground running.

  1. The acquisition of Colvin made it a foregone conclusion that Thomas would be placed on IR. Seau is a good sub for Bruschi on the inside as well as some packages.
Nothing has been done about O'neal though. I guess the rookies will get another crack especially richardson if he can stay healthy!

  1. Maybe they can get OJ to play when he gets out of jail.

  1. Agreed. Nice to have Junior back, but losing Thomas just adds insult to injury... or maybe its the other way around...

  1. well when it rains it poors i guess...who knows how senior seau can help us, but he certainly cant hurt

  1. Why not put Seau at outside linebacker, Vrable is olnly a shell of what he used to be. Inside linebakcer is stacked with Guyton, Mayo and Brushi, they all do a very good job, it is the outside backer that is not producing, like years past!!!

  1. They must have figured that AD being able to get back was a long shot, so it just made sense to go with what you know and not with what you don't.

Having said that, it's not a good thing they don't have AD, but with Rosie coming back on the outside and Junior on the inside, they should be in much better shape than they would have been without these moves.

The bottom line is, welcome back, Junior!

  1. AARP ... the new official sponsor of the NE Patriots Defensive Linebackers.

  1. Two guys who were out of football coming back to be part of your linebacker rotation 3/4 of the way through your season? That does not bode well for Pat's D the rest of the season, especially with a suspect secondary and Ty Warren winged with a groin injury (tough to push off to gain leverage). Making the playoffs would be a huge accomplishment this year for the coaching staff.

  1. Man thats hurts!!!

  1. Well, AD going on IR was inevitable...we got 2 old timers that will do precent decent as part time players

  1. Since the coaching suck job of blowing "the perfect season" by not changing strategies early enough in the Superbowl last year, everything has gone wrong for this team. They began with a subpar defense and have been decimated by injuries. They've allowed 30+ points 3 times so far this season, now they add 2 dinosaurs to play with Teddy who is toast, the whole thing just sucks. And it's winter! Come on Red Sox, sign Teixeira! Okay, so I have to be honest too and say how spoiled we've been by this team. Still, it just kills me they couldn't beat the Colts two years ago or win the Superbowl last year. What the legacy really could have been!!!!!

  1. What next? Cookie Gilchrist? John Hannah?

Posted by Joe December 5, 08 10:50 AM
  1. Wow...at least they are replacing people with folks we know the names of (Seau and Colvin) otherwise I don't think there would be anyone left on the team I would recognize.

Posted by Bob December 5, 08 10:52 AM
  1. Damn, can Andre Tippet be far behind?

The loss of AD has really shown; think about all of those cheap Brett Favre completions over the middle in the Jets win over the Pats that would not have happened with Thomas in coverage

  1. this is a lost season...good only for matt cassel to get experience

  1. I am glad we are not just rolling over and giving up on this season....We have a shot and bringing in some vets is not the worst thing that this team could do at this point. Lets make a playoff push and if and when we get in there....I promise fireworks

  1. It's a forearm. Couldn't AD have throws a cast on it and get back out there?

  1. So much for Albert Breer's sources saying he would be back for the Arizona game.

Posted by Nikos December 5, 08 10:58 AM
  1. Granted, Thomas can be a beast, but if you watched him this year he seems to have either lost a step or is unsure of his coverage of Tight Ends. I thought he as suppose to be a shut-down type of guy who could stifle the swifter TEs. I wish him well and hope he recovers and plays next year. Seau is a great addition to this defense. He plays his position like he should and does not get caught out of zone just when someone reverses direction he's got them. He is also a great emotional leader for both sides of the ball. You can't pay enough for that sort of innate leadership. With Colvin and Seau, I think the Pats defense just took a giant step foward. Mayo is playing the Rookie of the Year on defense. He is the beast of the East. I just wish the CBs and Safeties would step up and make some plays.

  1. Ugh...I never realized how bad things are until now.

  1. Finally the patriots will be contenders again. welcome back Junior !!!!! New England has not played the same without Seau. Bring back multi sacks, interceptions, big D,and cool hats. This is huge. I am absolutely Jubilant .

Seau & Rosie wake this team up

  1. Lawrence Taylor And Andre Tippett may still be available.

  1. Awsome. I think Rosie and Seau will come in physically fresh and with a depth of system knowledge.

I think this will breath some life into our 3rd down D.

    How say you Riesey!??

  1. Can older, semi-retired men help the line-backing core with speed and quickness on the pass rush? Junior has been in the league for EIGHTEEN YEARS! Rosie never became to LB everyone originally thought.

These are stop gap measures for a team with structural deficiencies on defense. Looks dismal that the team will be able to wrangle for a wild card berth in the playoffs. Could have, would have, might have, should have . . .

  1. Maybe Junior can bring back the spark he provided last season....

  1. Good to have Seau back because I know he'll help motivate the team and he'll help out on the field, but its too bad to put AD on the shelf for the year.

Posted by rtbucket December 5, 08 11:15 AM
  1. Damn, I was hoping AD could make a miraculous comeback in the playoffs (if we make it...) The injurys to the rookies must be worse than we thought...Hope California hasn't made him soft!

Posted by Mark December 5, 08 11:18 AM
  1. But wait Albert Breer reported on NE Sports Tonight earlier this week that he (Breer) was hearing about AD being back by Arizona. Looks like the delay putting him on IR was a great big tease. Bummer.

  1. Sigh! How can a broken arm keep a player out for 2 months?

Posted by BostonNeal December 5, 08 11:26 AM
  1. I guess Nick Buoniconti or Andre Tippett weren't available.

Posted by CTSteelerFan December 5, 08 11:31 AM
  1. How about AT?

Posted by Tim December 5, 08 11:33 AM
  1. ARRRRRRG! Well...I guess we knew it was coming...why do they have to force us to hold out hope by keeping him on the roster???

    Posted by Sonny_Corlione December 5, 08 11:39 AM
  1. A.D most overrated player in the league. He sucks. Seau will do much better for the Pansies..i mean Pattsies... yea right!!! SEASON OVER LOSERS

  1. Seau will at least help the Patriots get back to the top of the league in running into your own players. He's the best LB in the league at that.
