Balancing act

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff December 19, 2008 11:05 AM

The Patriots' opponent this Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals, is the most unbalanced team in the NFL in terms of offensive approach.

They've attempted 560 passes and 306 rushes, for a differential of 254.

Here is a look at the top 5 "unbalanced" teams in the NFL, with their differential:

  • Arizona -- 254
  • New Orleans -- 190
  • Indianapolis -- 189
  • Denver -- 176
  • Philadelphia -- 164

As for the Patriots, they're one of the league's more balanced teams, with 63 more passes attempted than rushes attempted.

    1. It is funny to think of the Patriots as a balanced team. They seem to always be in 3 wide shotgun.

    1. That is a lot of chucking that pigskin !

Mike, how does that compare to the Patriots differential of last year when they threw the ball alot ? And, how close is that to the NFL record for passes attempted in a season ?
