Boldin could be held out of game vs. Patriots

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff December 18, 2008 05:19 PM

Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin missed practice for the second day in a row because of a shoulder injury, and coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters that he could be held out of Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Running back J.J. Arrington (right knee sprain) also hasn't practiced this week.

"I think that both these guys want to play and if they're ready to go, they'll play," Whisenhunt said, according to the Arizona Republic and the Arizona Cardinals' official website. "But I think also, you have to be smart with that situation. If this was a game that for us meant to get into the playoffs, it would be a completely different scenario."

  1. Lucky for you Pats fans that Boldin might not play. If he plays the Pats are toast and Warner is the toaster. Who is going to cover Fitzgerald... O'Neal????

  1. I hope they both sit out.

  1. Well, Carl Nemes, let's put it this way. For as good a pair of receivers that FitzGerald and Bold are, it is very difficult to catch passes from a quarterback who is buried in the frozen turf of Gillette Stadium on a windy, wet, cold, rainy/snowy Sunday in December in Beautiful New England.

It's not like the Patriots have never played against teams that have good quarterbacks and solid receivers.

  1. Relax Carl...the Cards are an okay team in a terrible division...don't get carried away.

  1. 'Lucky for you Pats fans .......Carl JR'

Sure thing. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Sounds like you've got a built in excuse ready to go. The only thing that Warner will be toasting is his sorry butt up next to a heater on the bench. When Warner does get on the field it will be Seymour, Wilfork and plenty of snow. Good luck with that.

  1. Look at who the Cards wins have been against.

Not to worry even if Boldin and Arrington play

  1. Pssst...hey, Carl...who's going to cover Moss, Welker, Watson?
Your running game is 32/32, means you are last. One dimensional teams do not fare well against the Patriots.
Pull up the lowlights of the Card's butt-whuppin' by Philly on Thanksgiving, just to get comfortable. Expect more of the same.
You get to play the Pats. On the road, in cold weather. The Razor will be rockin', but your team won't be.

  1. Lucky for the rest of the league that Brady, Maroney, Rodney, AD, Wheatley, Tank, etc are on IR and not on the field. In addition the Pats had their entire backfield out at one point and were running a rookie FA RB out there, they lost DB's, you name it, they were injured. But, we don't make excuses in good 'ol New England though Carl we just keep moving forward and still have a shot at the playoffs despite all that.

Yes the Pats are 9-5 and tied for first in the AFC East, yes the Pats are winning with a virtual rookie at QB, a couple of great wide receivers and a lot of inuries but were still in a very familiar position and have a shot at the playoffs. So spare us one injured WR and leave the excuses at home.

PS - Isn't your cakewalk in the division due to all the injuries the Seahawks have suffered, so why would you be complaining about injuries when your team has been extremely lucky in that dept.??

  1. Mike,
Boldin doesn't matter. And you are smarter than that. The Colts won. The win basically eliminated the Patriots from the playoff's. The Colts nailed down spot #5. There is one spot left, for 4 teams before Sunday's game. Out of the 4 teams, the Patriots are last.

A miracle has to happen. The Patriots are out of the 2009 playoff's. Now, tell me, how important is Brady to this team? Instead of 9-5, shouldn't they be 11-3 with him. More importantly, shouldn't they be headed to the playoff's?

Thanks for the service, Matt, but your time in my neighborhood has come

  1. If he doesn't play, the Patriots win. Arizona becomes less dynamic. Steve Breaston is good but not as good as Boldin.

  1. Tom,

but 2 of those 4 teams play each other. one will likely lose. the third team plays the cowboys. and the pats are the 4th. and all 3 teams still have one more game besides so not much of a miracle. some help yes.

  1. Tom, Lets assume assume the Pats win out (very realistic against AZ and Buff), One of either the Doofins or JEST are def. gonna lose one, cuz they play each other. Which means even if they both win this w/e, one will be out of the running.

All we need is a Cowgirls win (and they are playing for thier playoff lives) agains the Ravens and we are IN. It's not that unrealistic. Be a fan dude.

  1. I can't wait until the Cardinals are in the playoffs and the Patriots will be watching them from home. My favorite comment: "Pssst...hey, Carl...who's going to cover Moss, Welker, Watson?" I am really scared about Watson and all of his 2 TD's this season.

  1. Mike, (#9)

"There is one spot left, for 4 teams before Sunday's game."

You should brush up on the basic playoff format (which is not real complicated )before you open your hole.

The four teams are the Pats , the Fish , the Jets and the criminals (I mean the Ravens)

There is not 1 spot for these 4 teams there are two -- the AFC East division title and the last wildcard spot..

I know you are a sociopathic pessemist bordering on being suicidal but at least get the facts stright before your sanguinated nasal proboscus inhales the carbon monoxide.
