Craig to practice squad

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff December 3, 2008 10:27 AM

The Patriots just officially announced the signing of OLB Rosevelt Colvin, and at the same time, filled the final spot on their practice squad with LB Angelo Craig.

The 23-year-old Craig (6-5, 242) was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the seventh round this year. He was cut at the end of training camp and was with the Carolina Panthers' practice squad for one day in September.

Craig played at the University of Cincinnati.

The Patriots' practice squad consists of:

  • WR Maurice Price
  • S Mark Dillard
  • C/G Dan Connolly
  • C/G Ryan Wendell
  • DL Titus Adams
  • P Tom Malone
  • OLB Darrell Robertson
  • OLB Angelo Craig

    1. Thats really great. Lets waste a practice roster spot on a LB that couldnt even make the bengels defense. What are BB and company doing?

    1. rickb101,
Teams like the Bengals are continually bad because they have small scouting departments and can't spot talent. I'm not saying Craig is going to be a contributor on the 53 at some point but you can't say he will not simply because the Bengals cut him.

    1. Tom Malone is to the practice squad what Bret Saberhagen was to simulated starts. What is the typical salary of a practice squader?

    1. I find it hard to believe that the bengals would cut a player from their practice squad that they have scouted and drafted if he could play. He also was cut after only 1 day from the carolina squad. That should speak volumes about his playing abililties and aptitude for improvement. Do you think we should continue to waste our time with Bengals castoff's? Look at the money we paided delta o'neil. That money could have gone to Ty Law who would have been an improvement over anything we currently have in the secondary. This guy will soon be serving you a burger.

    1. Or most likely the Patriots like having multiple linebackers on the practice squad for practice reasons ie imitating opposing defenses and needed to replace OLB Vince Redd

    1. Yeah, What is Tom Malones role anyway? I had not looked at the practice squad in a long time and I assumed his spot was taken with someone else.

Does he also serve as a practice squad qb or something?

    1. What is wrong with Patriots fans? They have one bad year and everyone questions BB? Let's not forget they went 18-1 last year and have won three superbowls in the past seven years. Something tells me he knows what he is doing.

    1. You're so right about bengals cast offs- Corey Dillon was terrible. Nowhere near as Maroney
