FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots coach Bill Belichick held his regular press conference (11 a.m.), and media members had access to the locker room (11-11:50 a.m.) today at Gillette Stadium. Here were a few nuggets of note:
1) Matchup of two of the NFL's least penalized teams. As the Buffalo News points out today, Sunday will be a matchup between the NFL's least penalized team (Patriots, 55 accepted penalties) and a team tied for the second fewest penalties in the NFL (Bills, 68). Asked about that, Belichick called the Bills "well disciplined and very well coached."
2) Ty Warren playing through pain. Defensive end Ty Warren, who has been playing through a groin injury, reiterated today that the injury will require fixing after the season. Warren, the team's starting left end, has had his playing time managed in recent weeks. It has helped that the Patriots have been involved in some blowouts.
3) Bills have their version of the Wildcat. Belichick was asked about the Bills' usage of their version of the Wildcat package, which is when a running back takes a direct snap from center and the quarterback is split out wide as a receiver. Fred Jackson takes most of the Bills' snaps in that package, which the Patriots have prepared for this week. "Some games they don't run it all, and other games they run it a handful of times, sometimes you get it a play or two," Belichick said. "It's a little different than Miami. You can't really count on it, but you know they have it and there is nothing that says they couldn't come in and run it 10 times, or they might not run it all. You have to prepare for it, but it's a little less certain than what you get out of Miami, although Miami has more plays out of it."
4) Tom Brady & Adalius Thomas among those in the house. QB Tom Brady (left knee) and OLB Adalius Thomas (arm) popped their heads out of the training room but decided not to enter the locker room when they spotted reporters.
Wildcat; When the bills or the fins put their quarterback out as a wide receiver, why not have the defensive back step up close and whack the crap out of him? I watched the Pats vs. the Fins and couldn't believe that we were playing Chad as if he were a legitimate receiving threat.
totally agree - havn't understood why a CB doesn't line-up right in their face & give them a massive dose of what the non-QB position may bring?
