Reiss breaks down gap control

FOXBOROUGH -- The Globe's Mike Reiss breaks down gap control in the Patriots' defense and illustrates why the team struggled to stop the run to the right side -- particularly with the absence of defensive lineman Ty Warren -- in Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Steelers.

  1. Mike, I'm loving these X's and O's videos, but have a question for you. What's the answer to this? How could we have defended this play differently, in your opinion?

  1. Hi Ben. This was one where Wright and Vrabel could have won their individual assignments. It looked to me like the linebackers, Guyton and Mayo, also got caught up inside and perhaps one of them missed an assignment.
