Seau in Foxborough today
The agent for linebacker Junior Seau said that the 18-year NFL veteran is visiting the Patriots today, and revealed that Seau landed in the Boston area at 3:45 p.m. Eastern Time.
Marvin Demoff, Seau's agent, said that if Seau is healthy it shouldn't be difficult for the sides to reach a deal that would put Seau back in a Patriots uniform.
"I don't think the contract will be an issue," said Demoff. "If Junior is there and nothing is different from what they thought last night, I would suspect they'd do a contract, and he'd be a Patriot tomorrow. I don't think any promises were made to Junior or by Junior to them before he got on the plane."
Demoff said that Seau got a call from Patriots coach Bill Belichick and vice president of player personnel Scott Pioli last night.
"Whatever transpired in the conversation yesterday between Junior and the Patriots it got him on a plane to continue talking," said Demoff.
Seau had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder in February. Demoff said that should not be a problem, if Seau returns to the playing field.
"His shoulder has been fine since sometime in August," said Demoff.

best thing that could happen for the patriots they need the speed and toughness coming around the corner we need that absolute pressure on the opposing quartebacks
Doesn't the defense need to get faster, not older? How about the Pats sign someone who can cover a tight-end? Oh well. Junior does own a restaurant in San Diego. Maybe he can bring us some of those fish tacos.
Patch, patch, patch! The Warren and Woods injuries must be fairly serious. - If this team makes the playoffs [and even if they get close] , the Belichick legacy will be well burnished. - But, for the future, their defense needs serious improvement. No Belichick aura with this group! - I said after the heartbreak of the Brady injury that this season would not be easy but would be great theater, and it is.- Go Pats!
It is about time. I was wondering why we hadn't heard anything about him coming back.
Jeez....has the team been in contact with Chris Slade yet? How about Todd Collins?
Colvin, Seau.. Is Chris Slade available?
That's what I'm talking about.................... Go Jr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need all the help we can get, emotional and/or physical!
GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FYI
Seau is a more capable tackler than most of the LB's on the team....
Chris...Which 2 line backers do you think will stay on the field in the nickle package? I don't see Mayo coming off...will it be Guyton or Seau?
Too Little too late. BB screwed up on this, as he did with Colvin.
Sign. Him.
I am guessing that Thomas is about to go on IR.
GO DOLPHINS!
This stuff is too funny.
Another move that would screw the team and the development of the younger players for future years.
I love the haters on Colvin and Seau . . . they may not be young, healthy, nimble, but they know how to play hard-nose, smash-mouth football - certainly better than the Haters/trolls/clowns that think otherwise. I have confidence with guys that know the system coming in.
Some of these comments are a joke. Please it's about strengthening the Defense for the short term as we come down the stretch and bringing more of a veteran presence to the defensive side of the ball.
Nothing beats experience and those young guys need a teacher ON the field. Let's hope for the best outcome.
The defense has been suspect in the secondary. These two LBs will help trust. I don't think BB, the Pats and Pats fans should be down about this season. All I've seen is a coach and team survive and play hard nosed football. Competative football and not lame crap loosing football like the world thought they would. Everyone said BB was makinga mistake with Cassel and look what's happened. The dude can play.. This team has been hit stupid hard with injuries and it still competes. It still goes outs and leaves it all out on the field. I'd love to see a rematch of the Pats and Stellers for the AFC Championship.
awsome news
Hey B Flay, got a couple of young linebackers in mind who know the Patriots system and can step right in to help out this weekend? Hello?
Yeah, that's what I thought.
This is a great idea. Short-term fix? Well, DUH. Injuries have left them desperate.
Seau is exactly what the defense needs. He has done nothing but distinguish himself in a Pats' uniform. They will crush the Seahawks!
This has been in place since training camp. After 18 seasons, Seau does not have the durability to play a 19 0r 20 game schedule. Wisely, he and Belichick agreed to talk around Thanksgiving, and have Seau come in for the stretch run. He's going to make a huge difference this year for a defense that has struggled mightily. For those who don't pay attention, Seau said this spring that the ONLY team he would play for is the Patriots. I see sacks, int's and W's in the Patriots Christmas stockings.
I think JR wants the ring BAD ... He is hoping for the 2001 Magic ! You never know what the playoffs will bring... Thats the best thing about football, any given day teams can show up and kick A$$ ... Just look at last years superbowl !
This certainly couldn't hurt and worse than the position they have been in all season. True the Pats should be working on developing young players to have them eventually take over, but that, for some unkown reason isn't happening.
I still don't see them making the playoffs this year. It might be best that way. Do we really want to see them get to the SB with "this" team, up against, what appears to be the now very (this makes me sick to say too) powerful Giants? If last year wasn't bad enough, this year? Uh no
When does Lynch return, moving Merriweather to corner?
NOW THAT ROSIE AND JR ARE BACK...................WHERE'S TROY???????????
HE SAID THE OTHER NIGHT HE'S WAITING FOR A CALL, IF THE CALL COMES HE'S READY.............HE STILL LIVES IN TOWN, i GO BY HIS HOUSE EVERY DAY ON THE WAY TO WORK......

FOXBORO MA
Not a bad move. Add depth and experience in a depleted defense Get healthy quick Ty Warren -- Mike Wright is getting abused playing your position.
Bring back John Lynch!!!
Hang on!! The cavalry is coming!!
BB is not bringing these guys on board to make the playoffs. He is getting them in shape to make a run at the SB once the second season starts.
How is this going to help. I love Seau, but he's not getting any younger, and neither are any of our other linebackers. Also, the linebackers aren't the major problem on D...its our secondary...try signing some better players there
Patch patch patch? Maybe we should wait for the draft next year? This is what a good team does that has a chance to make the playoffs. They bring in experienced players in their system. They have the spots, ADT will be back by playoffs and I like what Junior and Rosie can bring to the table, especially in a part time role
Is this really hard? BB needs bodies - they're desperate at OLB and if Tedy is really hurting, they have no more MLB's either - and both Colvin and Junior know the system. Would you rather bring in a retread from another system who can't play (hello there, Deltha) - or players who at least have a little left and already know the system?
(Although I do have to admit, my first reaction was "Gee, Bull Bramlett wasn't available?" )
If I were over 40, had a hip replaced, and was recovering from a stroke, I could really cash in in this town.
Seau is older, but he's got fresh legs. That's going to help a lot. The real question with him and Colvin is, "What kind of shape are they in?"
Hey MORONS, who else would they have signed at this point in the season.
Are you the same idiots who bitched about not signing Ty Law?
Seau was an ABSOLUTE beast in last year's AFC title game vs the Chargers! He may not be the same player he once was, but remember, Seau is being brought back due to serious injuries to the LB corps not as a longterm answer at the position. I doubt Seau would take away playing time from Mayo.
Seau is being dusted off and brought back to cover for an injury to Bruschi at ILB, and provide depth at the position with injuries to A.Thomas, Woods, and Redd. You can't expect a 3-4 team to go into a game with only 4-5 healthy LBs on the roster!
Someone call Andy Katzenmoyer.
Even if they don't make the playoffs, I hope Junior signs on for the duration of the schedule. A last opportunity to see one of the greats play.
Those of you who don't think the team is developing younger players, look at the snap totals for Mayo and recently, Guyton.
Does Bill's Rolodex only have five inserts in it? I too love Seau, but the desperation signings are getting a bit scary.
Better than not having enough players on the squad... with injuries thinning out the ranks, it's Seau (who ALREADY KNOWS THE DEFENSE) or somebody from the waiver wire.
It was just a matter of time. Welcome back JR.
What about signing Dick Butkus?
Yup....this was in place since training camp most likely. It's pretty smart because Seau will be fresh once he gets the rust off and he'll also be able to impart some wisdom to Mayo, whose time he will not be taking btw. Let's just hope we find a way to win this weekend in Seattle so that we can get Warren healthy and Seau and Colvin up to game speed.
Yeah put the young guys in, right. Let Mayo play inside linebacker AND outside linebacker AT THE SAME TIME.
I played LB in high school, and BB and SP just called me.
Why oh why didn't they sign Daunte Culpepper?
it is great we get to play against 2 crappy teams in a row for some practice for colvin and seaul
