Seymour on firings of Mangini, Crennel

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff December 29, 2008 02:14 PM

FOXBOROUGH -- Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour called the firings of Jets coach Eric Mangini and Browns coach Romeo Crennel "tough," but said the dismissal of the Patriots two former defensive coordinators is, "the nature of the business."

"It's always tough because both of those guys were here, were our defensive coordinators" said Seymour, "I think it's obviously tough when you build or have a relationship with coaches across the league and they're fired, but that's the nature of this business. One day it's going to be us. That's the nature of the business."

  1. Romeo, your always weclome here, you are a great man and deserve another chance to Head Coach. Please come back and wait for the next chance. Eric HA,HA,HA,HA.... What goes around comes around bud. Looks like Bill knew what was best after all. I hope you get a job next year with the Pats as well I hear Bill needs someone to get coffee for all the coach's and needs someone to get water to the players during timeouts.

I am so PROUD of the Patriots and the GREAT year we had. Can't wait until July

  1. Pats fans ever going to get over this? Eric is Fredo because Bill cheats... riiiight. Great season with Cassel, I'm glad the Jets lost to keep the Pats out of the playoffs, but I'm only glad because Pats fans are such losers, I actually feel bad for Bill, Matt, and the rest of the team (except Welker... what a douche.)

  1. A very inspirational season, to go 11-5 with a backup QB and a patch work defense. This season alone showed us why Bill is the best coach ever....

Might we have a jealous Miami troll who is still sore for having Miami loose Wes Welker?

  1. Mangini deserved everything he got. He was never a Tough coach. He just looked
Mangini should have took Fayre out of the game and put another Q.B in cause fayre lost that game for them But Mangini just sat there and let it happen
The only day and hopefully NEVER again the Pats fans will have to route for the Jets to win They couldn't even do that right

  1. Well....to hear that someone has been "let go" is never good news in this economy. However Dunkin Donuts was very happy to here that now Mangini aka "baby gorilla" will be doing all his X's and O's in jelly sticks and honey dips!!! Ha,ha that fat tub is O-U-T-Y outy! outy! outy!

  1. The writing was on the wall for Mangina. The Commish was not happy with him for spygate...insiders say the Commish along with League insiders were more upset with Mangina than Bill for the black eye given to the NFL by spygate, especially since the Pats caught the Jets videotaping previous to Mangina ratting the Pats out.

I will be surprised to see Mangina in any significant coaching role in the NFL. The word is he is damaged goods in the eyes of the NFL.

  1. You can't pull Favre, Paula. He's a GOD, right ? A genuine awe-inspiring diety among us. Just ask Madden (about his man-crush.) Now the J-E-T-S get to play the months-long Brett soap opera: is he done? will he decide to give it another go. Now they get to inherit Green Bay's annual off-season headache and do the chasing around and general butt-licking to assuage Brett's Everest size ego. They deserve it! And Eric deserves it for unceremoniously dumping a gritty competitor (Pennington) for an over the hill headache. Brett just pulled one of his usual December specials: get wild with the football and cough up any chance your team has of winning. I just never got all the fuss about that guy. Yeah, sure, he provided some highlight reel plays here and there, but you had to always ignore an equal number of bonehead forced balls. His touchdown to INT ratio was as poor as usual - and made his deification so unjustified. And then they had to kiss his *ss to get him to keep playing 'just one more year.' His consecutive starts streak was the biggest source of most of the praise, but that was equal parts toughness and equal parts luck - as Brady can attest. He was just lucky noone ever got his knees.

  1. glad the Jets got Favre, he really is a loser with a BIG L.
when you start playing football on one person you have lost the game.
