  1. Mike,

Let us know if you hear anything on why Capers didn't last. I'd be curious.

  1. Could there be a place for a former defensive coordinator, turned head coach, turned unemployed in the Pats Coaching vacancies? This person also has the added value of working "in the system" for years, including being a big part of arguably the best head-coach/off. def. coordinator trio in NFL history. I wonder if Romeo and the HC of tbe NEP would be interested in re-working that relationship. Reality is, the BB seldom makes mistakes..... let's hope that continues!

  1. Mike, are they accepting applications for the open positions? I would be interested in applying. Thanks!

  1. Every end of season it seems all the other teams come to Foxboro with shopping carts and empty our shelves with their idea of dreams and fortunes. Then they take their haul home and watch it all collapse, then come back for more! There ouight to be a law!

  1. Mike...any idea of what it means for Capers now the Nolan appears to be the choice at DC for Denver? And, is Seely interested in Seattle, or do you think he's going Mile High?

  1. Mike -- Any chance Belichick is considering Scott O'Brien as special teams coach? He is out there and BB has spoken very highly of him in the past.

  1. Did the Patriots let these guys go? I thought McDaniels said that Capers was under contract with the Patriots. Where is Seely rumored to go? Didn't Seattle fill their ST position? Is this a case of personality conflicts? Odd that Seely works with the Patriots for so long and is leaving, and isn't even rumored for a promotion with another team.

  1. What about the recently deposed Boston College head coach? He's got some experience as an O.C. in green bay and it's pretty clear that he wants back in to the NFL. Or would we just be setting ourselves up again for someone to leave immediately?

  1. Mike, what kind of contract terms do the asst coaches have? I thought Capers signed a 2yr contract. Given that he was Pats asst head coach, how could he leave unless he was promoted to head coach somewhere or it was mutually agreed for him to leave? Same with Seely. Was it a mutually agreed parting, was his contract expiring, or did he receive a promotion?

  1. Mike, I believe one of the reasons for Belichick's falling out with Mangini was the agreement when a coach left he wouldn't take other assistants from the staff. Romeo only took one guy who was going to leave anyway and BB let him take McGinest to help with the D.

Also it's being reported the D.C. in Denver is Nolan so that's a job Capers won't have. Is he still leaving or is it possible he's coming back?

  1. Hi Mike

I echo the other comments here - I'd be interested in knowing why Brad Seely has chosen now to depart, if it was even his choice. I have understood Capers to be temporary at best, but Seely is a surprise to me given his longstanding tenure. I'd appreciate anything you can tell us about this.

  1. Hi gang. When I have more information to pass along, I'll do so. Thanks for the catch on the QB coach, Rocco. McDaniels handled those duties.

  1. Hey Mike,

If Seely and Capers go would the Patriots start restricting access to coaches? I mean not allow permission for teams to interview them. It seems that if they lose Pioli plus 3 coaches, that's an awful lot of change for an organization. Any rules of thumb? It would seem that the permission system is meant to prevent wholesale organizational losses.

  1. McGuinest left as a free agent, I believe. Typically if a coach has a contract, the team that has him under contract will negotiate for his release. I believe we gave the NYJ a pick or two for Belicheck. The law generally cannot force a person to be a coach but what these contracts do is prevent the person from coaching on another team and those clauses are enforceable. The can also be financial penalties for leaving early.

So if Capers is indeed leaving while under contract I would expect that the Krafts will want some draft pick compensation.

  1. I'm officially starting the "Bring back O-T-I-S" revolution. He was here as a reliable player. He was here as an Assistant Secondary Coach. He holds the same position in Philly. Give him the full named gig here.

Who's jumping on board w/ me?

  1. Man, I wish Dean Pees would go too.

Only an incompetent DC would constantly use Adalius Thomas in pass coverage on passing downs.

The defense has choked against 2 minute offenses in season ending do-or-die games. At Indy in 2006 AFC Championship game and in SB 42.

  1. Any chance we can get the DC position open, too? Pees has been nothing but lack luster and uncreative. I'd love to see Romeo step back into that position.

  1. Heck, give O-T-I-S a uniform and let him play. He'd be an upgrade.

  1. Less no one forget, the Pats haven't won a Super Bowl since OC Charlie Weis and DC Romeo Crennel left town. If we could get either one back, we'd be in pretty good shape. It's too bad the defensive coordinator didn't bolt, not that I'm that high on Josh McDaniels, who couldn't effectively make the necessary halftime adjustments to win SB 42 and has basically been "along for the ride" with a talented group of offensive skill position players and the best head coach in the NFL, not to mention the best QB in the entire world in Tom Brady. If there's any chance of bringing back Romeo, I hope the Pats perform due diligence. Not only is he a professional, class act, but he's a great, inventive DC. I still think he could succeed on his second try as HC, just like Mr. Belichick himself has done.
