Harrison added to NBC coverage

Posted by Chad Finn, Globe Staff January 26, 2009 03:07 PM

NBC announced today that Patriots safety Rodney Harrison will be part of its pregame show before Super Bowl XLIII Sunday -- but he'll be talking about one topic New England fans might not want to relive.

Harrison, who has won two championships with the Patriots in his 15-year career, will be discussing his role in Super Bowl lore -- including his ill-fated attempt to prevent Giants receiver David Tyree's miracle reception in the Patriots' 17-14 loss in Super Bowl XLII. NBC plans a feature story on Tyree's catch.

NBC's Super Bowl XLIII pregame show kicks off at noon and will be led by its "Football Night in America" studio team of Bob Costas (host), Cris Collinsworth (co-host), Keith Olbermann (co-host), Dan Patrick (co-host), Jerome Bettis (analyst), Tiki Barber (analyst) and Peter King (reporter). Tony Dungy, Mike Holmgren, and Matt Millen were also recently announced as contributors.

  1. I read on Boston Sports Media Watch that Belichick will be breaking down some tape with Chris Collinsworth.

  1. Play that play 99 more times and I'll take Rodney. Oh ya Samuel you just stand there.

  1. Rodney has nothing to be ashamed of regarding his role in "the catch." It's one reason I can stand to look at that Super Bowl cover, because it's a photo showing Harrison wrapped around Tyree and doing everything humanly possible to knock that ball away. He always gave 100% when he was on the field, and that's what I see whenever that photo pops up somewhere. The Patriots were so fortunate to have him on their team.

  1. The pain!....Please Rodney, as good of an addition you will be to the telecast, the pain of going through the endless video of you NOT knocking the ball off Tyree's helmet will drive me crazy!

  1. At this point, NBC's coverage has become a joke. They're going to have to have at least three desk for gods sake.

  1. I have to admit, I was quite surprised how engaging and comfortable Rodney seemed in front of the camera. Can't see how he won't get a job out of it. I mean, he's just started and he's already infinitely better than Tiki. One thought I did have is whether the potential to get an immediate career in broadcasting might affect his decision to play next year?

Plus it's a good way to keep him in the public eye until he's ready for HOF election

  1. They should have Asante Samuel telling everyone how he blew the interception that would have ended the game.

Rodney is smooth on TV. Good luck to a class act!

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you for pointing out Asante Samual's failure in the Superbowl. I'm tired of the Boston media....woe is me attitude, we should have signed him sooner before free agency.
The Patriots still had a better record than Philadelphia.

Rodney was so funny when he said.....I respect the Steelers, but I hate them....cracked me up

  1. NBC seems to mistake quantity of analysts for quality. Why do they need so many people? And it's not like these are guys that provide the best analysis or funniest commentary. I'd get rid of Bettis and Barber who are only good for dirt on their old teams and talk about jokes, adding freakin' Matt Millen to the Super Bowl pregame show is the biggest joke of all. They might as well hire Bernard Madoff to be an anchor for CNBC.

  1. Obviously no recession at NBC Sports. By the time the game is played they'll have enough people to field their own team. I'd fire all those guys except Costas and Patrick.

I agree with you on Dan Patrick but would make Collingsworth the other half.

  1. C'mon PB... Collingsworthless over Costas... you're kidding me... Costas has more knowledge in his pinkie than Collingsworthless has in his whole body.
