Today's playoff games – Ravens at Titans and Cardinals at Panthers -- will include several players with ties to the Patriots:
Titans
Tyrone Poole -- Cornerback played in 22 games (21 starts) from 2003-2005. After he was out of football in the 2007 season, he was a late-season signing of the Titans this year, and has appeared in two games.
Ravens
Corey Ivy -- Veteran cornerback was with the Patriots as a rookie in 1999 but did not appear in a game. He plays in sub packages and on special teams.
Panthers
Adam Seward -- Linebacker visited with the Patriots as a restricted free agent this past offseason, but no offer sheet was ever drawn up. He's a backup, having appeared in nine games this season with most of his contributions coming on special teams.
Dante Wesley -- Safety was acquired in a 2007 training camp trade with the Bears, but was released before the season began. He's played in all 16 games this year, with his contributions coming mostly on special teams.
Cardinals
Monty Beisel -- Linebacker played in 15 games (6 starts) with the Patriots in 2005, but the match wasn't a fit and he was cut before the 2006 season. He's primarily a special teams player for Arizona.
Victor Hobson -- Linebacker was with the Patriots in 2008 training camp but was released before the season began. He was a late-season signing by Arizona and has appeared in one game.
Sean Morey -- The NFC's Pro Bowl special teams player this season, Morey appeared in two games for the Patriots in 1999.
Pat Ross -- Backup center from Boston College spent time on the Patriots' practice squad in 2007, but never appeared in a game. He has not played for the Cardinals this season.
Stephen Spach -- Tight end signed late and played in three games for the Patriots in 2007, and was on the roster for the first two games of the 2008 season before he was released. He's played in nine games (6 starts) for the Cardinals, has contributed as a blocker, and has totaled two receptions. Had a big catch in last week’s win over the Falcons.
Can someone explain to me why if your not good enough to make the playoffs, 3 teams that do can get better NFL DRAFT PICKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How great would it have been to have a game here tonight with the snow coming. It could have been Snow Bowl II!
Morey looks like the only one that got away.
Spach was released after the game in which he got a false start penalty on a kneeldown. Totally embarassing.
Could these playoff be any more boring! Balt./Tenn., Ariz./Car. these should be some of the NFL's lowest TV ratings. Sunday's games are not much better! Two teams with no right being in the playoffs (SD and Philly) again two of the most over rated teams in the league (NYG and Pitts). Wow this league have really sunk to a new low.
Rico,
It's about the games and the teams who merit playing in them. If you like football then these matches are great. If you're only interested in tv ratings then you're in luck - American Idol is returning.
We're missing that Tyrone Poole / Ty Law corner duo badly. Allowed our defense to dominate up front in 2003. Granted, as far as Poole is concerned, he had to go.
Rico ????? The two best defenses in the NFL square off Balt/Tenn. This is what the NFL is about ,parity. I am disappointed that we didn't make the playoffs but I think in the long run this will help the team next year. Why? REST their body's which they havent done since 2002.
Last year we had a good draft and we will reload this year. The rookie(2008) I think will have an impact this year is Crable. I would love to see Laurenitis, Malaenga, or Cushing on the Pats next season. Personally I think Laurenitis reminds me alot of Bruschi.
PS I meant 2 of the 3 best defenses, sorry Steelers. Is it me or are all the ex Patriots Harrison(hope you can come back) McGinest and Law are all NFL Channel commentators?
Sven, there are 4 teams that get better picks. Root for SD, Philadelphia, and Arizona. The Patriots can move ahead of them if they make the SB. As dumb as it is, MN will pick before the Pats because they are done. But, its not hard to root against a nephew of Tom Jackson (Tavaris) and be glad he's out.
Chris C,
Rooting for SD is a mistake. The Patriots own their second round pick, which will drop approximately 15 spots if the Chargers get to the Super Bowl.
