Evans on the money
Heath Evans said his decision to leave the Patriots for the New Orleans Saints was one where he had to put well-being ahead of emotional attachment.
You can't fault the fullback for making such a decision based on a few details of the deal. Per a league source, the Saints two-year offer included a $600,000 signing bonus and a little more than $1 million in bonuses and guarantees.
Evans said on Friday that he definitely would have loved the opportunity to come back to play for the Patriots -- "It's been a joy to be a part of something so special and an organization that has accomplished so much," he said -- but the Saints offer was simply too good to pass up and something the Patriots weren't going to match.

Good for Heath. Although I think his value to a team in todays game is very limited. The fullback roll has gone the way of the Dodo bird. Morris will take is limited plays from scrimage. No loss to the Pats.
I read in the Herald where Heath Evans says he"s a Household Name in New England....LOL.. are you kidding me? Pretty big ego for a ham and egger....You and I could run those 3 and short plays for no yardage too!
Nice guy . Now he can open his Dunkin Doughnuts in New Orleans Can't remember any big plays he has made. Cant blame him for the Superbowl when McDaniels did not use him properly to help block the Giants pass rush . He is respectful that BB pulled him off the scrap heap and his time here allowed him to make his new money. All of these marginal guys that have left and got good contracts in other places should give BB a kiss on his ass for him taking a chance on them.
I hope he does well. He did a fine job, albeit in a limited capacity, for the Pats. At this stage of his career, and not in one of the marquee positions, I can understand why he would take the money. I also agree that his participation is limited and that, for the Pats, with the addition of Taylor, Evans was expendable.
For some reason I respect his honesty much more than many "it's not money -- it's respect" or "I've got to eat" mega-stars. Nothing wrong with going with the highest bidder, as long as you are honest about it and make contributions to the community.
It may not be a huge loss to the Pats on the field but personally I will miss him. He was a great guy, a class act. I wish him luck and hope he found what he was looking for.
The best to him. Classy guy. I don't blame him for taking the $$$ and taking care of his family. Good luck!
It's a rough business in which players get no guarantees. Winning teams are always going to lose these kind of good-guy role players when they get a chance at some serious bucks somewhere else. If they get cut somewhere else, they keep their signing bonuses and wait for Billy B, or someone else that's smart, to call them when the injuries strike.
Now he can hang out with David Patten and Randall Gay and count their money on their way to an 8-8 season.
Good for him , we are going to miss the FB ,backup TE when all 3 of our TE went down for a few games in 07 ,2nd best blitz pickup in our RB group as when faulk got niked up he was in their instead of morris, maroney good ST player and best of all thanks for playing through injuries and i remember in one game they even mentioned he came to play after being in the hospital the day before to play. i did not notice that he never missed a game after joining the pats til resis piece .
good luck.
