Mike Adams set to visit with Patriots

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff March 3, 2009 06:21 PM

The Patriots are scheduled to host free-agent safety Mike Adams on a visit at Gillette Stadium, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Silverstein's report comes after Adams visited today with the Green Bay Packers.

Adams (5-11, 195) had spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns after playing the first three years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers. He has 23 career starts.

  1. Quoting the great Major League: "Who is this F#@$@# guy!!!!!"

  1. Why don't they just go down to BHCC and see if they can get a few guys who played high school ball to try out for the team.

This is getting a bit ridiculous.

  1. I agree with Whitey. This is another classic garbage cornerback signing. My only question is when will he get hurt?

  1. Yeah I know Whitey - trying to improve the team while doing it financially responsible is more than a bit ridiculous.

  1. Just because they're not big names doesn't mean they can't contribute.
Since when are the New England Patriots the Dallas Cowboys or Yankees of football?

Look at Mike Adams and his stats, he's 27, played in a defense NE uses and has decent numbers.

    Chill out guys.

  1. Brent and Whitey,
Just because you don't know these guys and they are not named Jason Taylor, Julius Peppers and any other either over the hill or overpriced player doesn't mean they are not good football players who will contribute to the team. I'm quite sure BB and his front office know football talent and they don't need your approval. Btw, the scouting report on this guy is that he always plays hard with lot of passion. Despite his size he mixes it up in run support and is not afraid to lay the lumber. He is very athletic and although a little tight on the hips he ok vs the pass. Probably more of an in the box SS type, tough with lots of energy, ultra competitive and a good ST player. Sounds like someone I'd like on my team.

  1. That's awfully nice. I was wondering when they'd finally invite WEEI's night host to tour the facility.

  1. Sweet ! Mikey Adams is coming for a tryout !

I wonder when the Big-O and Pete the Meat get their auditions...

  1. This team needs ONE decent cornerback. Spend some of that money on one decent corner rather than on several below average ones. They tried that last year and it failed.

  1. Well hopefully he's better on the football field than he is night shift radio show....

  1. Scouting report sounds solid. Could be good depth at safety and special teams but I'd still like to see them bring in a dependable corner. Wheatley and Wilhite are still question marks.

  1. This guy can play decent ball, he's got some starts under his belt. And his stats show good numbers for picks and tackles in the time he's played. He'll be cheap too

  1. Mike Adams is a pretty legit safety in the league. Those of you bashing a potential signing are showing your lack of knowledge....

    Chill out guys.

Sounds like a great add to to special team with James Sanders!!!!
Come on people im not looking for a big name but we are not stupid enough to think this guy is going to make an already bad D better.

  1. Nikos,
They are regretting not keeping Samuel, now are trying to go the same cheap path they did last year. Tell me again, how am I wrong with my assessment when I say this guy is at best mediocre?!!!!

    Tom is right.

  1. same can be said "who is tom brady?" or "who is matt cassel"? Although he may be a "no name" but he is a football player and that alone means he's got some physical talent. BB and company could help develop him into a better player and that's what coaches do right? I mean pretty much all picks above 2nd round are "no names" and they flourish from coaches.

  1. How about another try with Ty Law and Lawyer Malloy--put them with Rodney and you will have some serious football..

  1. The Packers are interested in him; he's coming to the NE visit after going to Green Bay. The Pack likes him because he's adept at covering receivers in the slot and is very experienced in 3:4 defenses. Maybe he'd match up well against Dallas Clark. If Rodney isn't back, we'll need someone who can do that well.

  1. Reading all your blogs that's why yuo sit home or sit in the stands an drink beer because you have no idea I trust the guy that won 3 super bowls than a bunch of guys that has no idea so go to work tomorrow and know what you know best.

  1. Whitey, I'm sure Belichick stays awake at night trying to figure out if what he's going is going to make you happy. Ditto Tom & Brent.

  1. I think it is time to start to develope our own secondary guys rather than pulling other teams cast offs off the scrap heep.I hope the 2 2008 rookies can turn out to be good even though they are on the small size. I still do not understand why you can not take a smart college wide reciever who is taller than 6'2 with good speed and develope him into a solid corner. Outside of Rodney what luck Have the Patriots had fishing through the scrap pile . Lets face it Hank Poteat and Earthwind Moreland are not walking through the door any time soon.

  1. If he is good he will make the team. If he is not he won't. Talk to Fernando Bryant on the topic.

  1. Mike Adams?????!! Be still, my heart... Sounds like a journeyman on the PGA Champions tour

  1. Is it a given that a visit equals a signing? Did I miss the announcement? DBs are like pitchers, you better get a lot of them.

  1. I lied and told her I loved her she didn't care but anyway.......

Posted by John Popper March 4, 09 10:33 AM
  1. he'll play behind merriweather and sanders. depth is key in this league and if they make a big move on a LB, their D is going to be great. merriweather and sanders are both only getting better, especially merriweather.

  1. Great stuff as usual from the Belichick fanboys--especially you, Pete Hilton. Perhaps you should learn how to construct a sentence. By the way, this is a comments page for a reason--you can weigh in with your opinions. Ripping other people and then just saying "In Bill We Trust", or something to that effect, is trite.

  1. PETE,

I like beer. PBR in fact. Got a problem with that?

  1. Hey guys, Browns fan here (no jokes please!!!). Mike Adams is actually a pretty decent depth player who is very versatile. He plays SS best and filled in VERY nicely when Sean Jones was injured. He can also play FS and Nickel back in a pinch.

  1. Those of you idiots who only are aware of the few big name players around the league need to bone up on your NFL knowledge. Mike Adams is the Real Deal, and that is why the Pats are looking at him. Some of you are so F'n clueless.
