Report: Galloway to Pats

Posted by Christopher L. Gasper, Globe Staff March 14, 2009 03:36 PM

The website Pro Football Talk is reporting that a Tampa radio station has reported that former Buccaneers wide receiver Joey Galloway has reached a one-year deal with the Patriots.

The station is WDAE.

The 37-year-old Galloway, who was released by Tampa on Feb. 25, visited with the Patriots on March 4 and also had visits with the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers, who according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette hosted Galloway on Monday.

The speedy Galloway spent the last five seasons in Tampa Bay. He had three straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2005 to 2007, but last year was limited to nine games last season after he broke two bones in his foot.

Galloway had 13 catches for 138 yards and no touchdowns in 2008.

  1. Despite not making any gigantic signings... have the Pats gotten stacked or what??? I love what they've done this offseason.

  1. sweet galloway has always been one of my fav players as i follow the bucs if he can get back to his 2007 form he will be great opposite of moss.

  1. Wikipedia actually has the story confirmed as well - don't know how legit that is though. I think it's pretty clear that the Pats are going to focus their draft on Linebackers & Offensive Line. I would actually rotate Hobbs in at Safety this year after we picked up Bodden & Springs.

  1. love this pickup.
the pats, always filling holes, and looking to get better, adding competition.

Moss, Welker, Greg Lewis, Galloway, Sam Aiken, and the young and upcoming Matthew Slater as WR's right now, this is gonna be one hell of a camp this year.

    Love Belichick.

  1. This move is perfect.
Now our WR corps is better than last year.
Galloway can bring that deep-threat which will only benefit guys like Welker and Lewis.

  1. Despite his age and productivity in '08, picking up Galloway is pretty sweet. He still has a little something in the tank. He would make a pretty damn good #3 reciever next to Moss and Welker. Also brings in the veteran leadership which is always a plus.

  1. great move. pats are coming with a vengence. colts, pittsburg, giants, watch out

  1. More of a "name" player at this point but not a shabby 3rd receiver if Moss and Welker are planketed.

  1. I like this move. With gaffney gone, which I was very sad to see, this could ease the pain. Randy will keep him in line. He still can catch and hhas decent speed.

  1. I've studied Galloway's game over the past three years. This is HUGE. He's like having a bigger faster more skilled David Givens on the team, and he's a seasoned pro. Thanks Bill. :-)

  1. Another nice signing....should stretch the field for Moss and Welker. Pat's will be in great shape for another title run if they draft well..

  1. are there any other ancient ex seahawks we can sign.springs,galloway......should shaun alexander start packing his bags????

  1. You have to say this for Kraft. He doesn't sit around. He makes very deliberate steps and is not afraid to do what he thinks will make the team better.

I can't stand Galloway, though it may work because Randy Moss has bought into the team concept and become the quintessential team player. I'm sure he'll have some effect (for the positive) on these guys.

  1. Cue the duckboats, the Pats are winning #4 this year!!!

  1. That would be the one and only Big Dog Steve Duemig, close friend of the Big O Glenn Ordway, take his word to the bank!!

  1. It appears that they have up graded at running back, wide reciever and tight end. Springs and Bodden should add some depth and experience to a secondary desperately in need of help. Now they have 4 relatively high draft picks and a chance to add Jason Taylor. My oh my is Dr. Bill being busy.

  1. This is a solid pick up. Him and Greg Lewis should fill the vacant spot of Jabar Gaffney.

  1. Sounds Good! The one year deals are usually for short money. But the player doesn't come for free. This signing is another good reason why the Pats were right to take the Cassell deal that was on the table.

  1. nice nice !!...another good veteran who will play his role...now, we can focus in drafting good defenders and the crown will be ours!!

  1. i woulda preferred tory holt

  1. If Brady's knee returns to health, this is just plain unfair to the rest of the league.

  1. he's my cuz

  1. I love it. Now we can focus on CB, OLB in the draft. However, I would like to see Donald Brown or Knowshon Moreno in a Pats uniform next year.

  1. This one is puzzling to me...why sign him?

Posted by Greg March 14, 09 06:32 PM
  1. The Patriots are now a nursing home for players. Come on- Joey Galloway? He is to old and injured. We need to get younger.

Posted by Rick from N.C. March 14, 09 06:54 PM
  1. Yes! I love this if it's true. Pair him with Moss and Welker and spread the field with speed and quickness.

Posted by nyjoseph March 14, 09 07:07 PM
  1. Wow. Can we give Tom any more weapons? Crazy

Posted by Nate March 14, 09 07:07 PM
  1. Yahoo!!! Weapons on offense in place. Now how about an OL.
Then we can move on to defense: DE/OL pass rusher, ILB, Safety,
My Gosh so many picks in the draft . Yahoo!!!

  1. Flippin' sweet! Moss to the right, Galloway to the left, Welker in the slot with Fred Taylor in the backfield. More importantly, Tom commanding the offense once again. I have a feeling 2009 will be another record year.

Posted by Chris March 14, 09 07:34 PM
  1. Let's hope he is the old Joey Galloway (production) and not the old Joey Galloway in terms of (age). Will see!

Posted by RichS March 14, 09 07:41 PM
  1. Give Joey a chance....He may REALLY help us!

Posted by Joe March 14, 09 08:09 PM
  1. Love it. Another BB gem. Perfect solution for the WR3 position and he is still that guy that can stretch the field. Can also jump in to field some punts when needed. Just a perfect fit.

Posted by DudeAbides March 14, 09 08:25 PM
  1. Torry Holt would be a better choice for a #3 receiver than Galloway.

Posted by Erik March 14, 09 10:04 PM
  1. Low risk, high reward signing, but I'm expecting him to be on IR before the season even starts.

Posted by Classless March 15, 09 12:37 AM
  1. Hysterical, this is not a 'good signing' it's another old guy with diminishing sklils that people are already counting on to 'stretch the field'. What a waste of cap space.

Yeah. bring in Jason Taylor and call it a day, a geriatric day. What a waste of money, Springs, Galloway, Fred Taylor.... How much older can you get than that?

Posted by Steve March 15, 09 10:21 AM
  1. Allot of people want Torry Holt, no doubt he is good player, but he is too expensive. He is probally looking 4-5 $mil a year, i don't think its worth spending that kind a money. We need to get Jason taylor..

Posted by pawan March 15, 09 02:42 PM
  1. Torry Holt still wants big money. Galloway is much faster and will help spread the field. Great pickup.

Posted by pete the dome March 15, 09 04:13 PM
  1. Trust Belicick...

Do you think he would bring in Galloway if he did not think he could contribute?

Look we have Moss, Welker, Lews and Slater..(Young Squad) Galloway will be great in situations (if not a starter). Come on you guys! Are the Pats not at the top of the NFL? Lighten up...
Don't forget we have draft coming up soon.

    The Pats look HOT!!
