Analyzing Patriots offseason

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff April 7, 2009 03:10 PM

Rick Gosselin, who writes on the NFL for the Dallas Morning News, opines on the Patriots' offseason in his column today.

Gosselin is complimentary of the team's moves:

The return of Tom Brady automatically makes the New England Patriots a Super Bowl contender in 2009. But it's the off-season machinations of Bill Belichick that again make the Patriots the favorite.

If quarterback alone could deliver a championship, the Miami Dolphins would have six Lombardi Trophies to show for the Dan Marino era. Instead, they have none.

That's what makes Belichick the best in the business right now. Tom Brady takes up only one roster spot. It's what Belichick has done with those other 52 roster spots that have forged the Patriots into the NFL's team of the decade.

Gosselin believes the Patriots have the best roster in the NFL.

  1. Best roster in the NFL?!? Yeah, tell that to the Steelers, who kicked our butts and won the SB.

  1. Uhhhh, we didn't have Brady and Taylor and Galloway and Springs and Bodden and the upcoming draft class of 2009.

Lou, you are certainly not a Patriots fan.
