Gilbert scheduled for pre-draft visit with Patriots
San Jose State defensive end Jarron Gilbert is scheduled to meet with the Patriots on a pre-draft visit at Gillette Stadium on April 13, according to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat (scroll to bottom of link).
The 6-foot-5, 288-pound Gilbert is projected to be picked as high as the mid-to-late first round.
In terms of need, the Patriots have four of their seven defensive linemen entering the final year of their contracts (Vince Wilfork, Richard Seymour, Jarvis Green, Le Kevin Smith), so a player like Gilbert likely would be groomed with the future in mind.
According to the Pro Football Weekly Draft Guide, Gilbert has the size and power to project as an end for 3-4 teams.
NFL teams are allowed up to 30 visits with out-of-town prospects. Those visits can mean different things -- from genuine interest, to a smokescreen, to a final medical check. Sometimes, the visits can rule a player out of the team's plans (e.g. if a player's interview or film work raises concerns about his ability to fit into a team's scheme).

He'll probably need to add some more bulk, maybe10-15 lbs before he could be an every down d-lineman. But you never know until the name called at the podium when considering it's BB behind the helm, we can't really project who they'll select. But its FUN trying.
Gilbert is very high on the Patriots board, I believe, and I think he's one of the players they'll be targeting at the end of the first round. He's got a huge, athletic frame like Seymour, with room to fill out. He already has a solid repertoire of pass rush moves for a tackle, and looks like a natural fit at 3-4 end. And, unlike most of the tackle prospects in this class, he has the strength to anchor and excel in the 2 gap scheme the Patriots use. I won't be shocked if they use #23, or move up from #34, to snag him.
Asking someone to gain 10-15 lbs and still be the same player is a tall order. I really see Gilbert in the mold of Jarvis Green. Someone who can come in on 3rd downs and really get to the passer. You can't have enough of those type players.
Anyone see the youtube clip of this guy jumping out of the pool?
Banjo.....
WHAT!!!!!!
Just google Jarron Gilbert Water.
What you really need to do is look at his highlight videos on you tube, both his junior and senior year, a lot of plays. He just may be an exceptional talent. I couldn't be more happy to see the Pats bringing this guy in. Don't know anything about him as a person, but there is potentially an exceptional talent there if what you see on those plays can translate to the pros. Incredible first step, incredible angles to the ball, strong, fights off blockers - he was probably not against the best with San Jose State but he was dominant.
I did see the pool jump. Pretty impressive, but does he have the intelligence to....
